2015 Digital Book Awards Were Just Announced

Right now everyone is buzzing about the Hollywood Golden Globes and the Oscars. But did you know that the 2015 Digital Book Awards were just announced at a gala event in New York City? Every year finalists and winners are celebrated in a number of different categories that recognize innovation in electronic publishing, design, technological integration, and the end-user experience for those who love e-reading.

The Annual Awards Ceremony

Over the weekend of January 13th, 2015, the awards were handed out during a major digital publishing conference that convened at the upscale Hilton Midtown Hotel. As explained by the president of POE Communications, the organization that hosted the Digital Book Awards program, “The digital publishing industry today is bursting with energy, innovation, ideas – and thousands of products.”

Why You May Be Interested

The Digital Book Awards help identify and acknowledge the e-books that are the most successful. That can, in turn, offer some unique expert guidance to readers like yourself who are always on the lookout for the highest quality and most exciting and engaging content. So without further ado, let’s jump right in and reveal some of the contenders and winners!

Winners in Adult Fiction

Adult Fiction is often regarded as the most closely watched and popular category of all – it’s like the Meryl Streep of the book publishing world. One of the winners in the Adult Fiction category was a book called “Chinese Whispers,” and another was The Truth Is a Cave in the Black Mountains.” The nominees for best books in that genre also included “An October Bride,” “Diamonds in the Sky,” and “Metaphysical Dog.”

Nonfiction Accolades

Readers of nonfiction, particularly women, were interested in style and fashion over the past year, as evidenced by the rave reviews they gave to two winners in that genre. The books “Women in Clothes” and “Penny Chic: How to Be Stylish on a Real Girl’s Budgettook some of the top honors in the Adult Nonfiction genre, beating out contenders like “Teach Us to Want,” “Immigration,” “The Hall: A Celebration of Baseball’s Greats,” and “The Social Entrepreneur’s Playbook Pressure Test.” But another winner – 20 Ways to Track a Tiger” – was not about urban chic in the asphalt jungle where fashion models are photographed, but instead is a collection of vivid photos of real tigers. The images were captured in the natural jungle where tigers roam, and the author highlights the vital importance of protecting these exotic but endangered animals.

Children’s Books

A colorful e-book about big cats in the wild will appeal to adults and young readers alike, but to tap into what kids are really yearning to read, check out books that were among the top contenders in the Children’s Books category. Some of the most praised nominees were “Benji Franklin: Kid Zillionaire,” “Severn Suzuki and the Day She Silenced the World,” and “Staff of Serapis” – a Disney publication. Dr. Seuss’s ABC: Interactive Edition,” was also highly rated, as was the book with the funny title “How to Be a Grouch.” But the biggest winners in the children’s category were “You Choose: Scooby-Doo!: The Terror of the Bigfoot Beast,” and “Virginia Wolf– a story loosely based on the author’s relationship with her sister.

Academics and Education

Those who were focused on learning and academics cast their votes for e-books such as “Computer Organization and Design,” “Introduction to Emergency Management,” and a big winner in that category – “Study It: English as a Second Language.”
