STARLIGHT UNBOUND

“Why show me this?”

“Because you’ve felt it, haven’t you? That nagging feeling that something isn ’t right. Like the edges of your world are starting to crack.”

Lucien ’s breath caught. How could she know that? “It’s stress,” he said, but the words felt hollow even as he spoke them. “Maybe I’m overworked. The system isn ’t perfect, but it keeps us safe.”

A bitter smile tugged at Lyra ’s lips. “Safe? Or controlled? There’s a difference between living and merely existing, Lucien. You ’ve been asleep. But now... you’re waking up.”

He took a step back, shaking his head. “I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but I should go.”

Lyra’s posture softened, but her voice remained firm. “Please. Just hear me out. You ’re here for a reason.”

Lucien hesitated. He could still walk away. But something about her words... about this place... kept him rooted. “Fine,” he muttered. “Say what you need to say. ”

“AstroSYS was designed not only to predict but to dictate. The Celestial Order uses it to suppress any form of dissent, any unpredictability. They ’ve erased entire histories, manipulated Charts of Life to suit their agenda. ”

His brow furrowed. “Manipulated how?”

Lyra’s expression darkened. “People with ‘undesirable’ alignments are reassigned. Their paths altered without consent. Infants born under certain stars...” She hesitated. “They disappear.”

Lucien ’s stomach twisted. “Disappear?” His voice came out quieter than he intended. He forced himself to meet her eyes. “You’re saying AstroSYS is... what? Covering it up? Controlling us? ”

Lyra nodded. “More than controlling. They ’re curating society—eliminating variables, anything that doesn ’t fit their perfect design.”

He shook his head, exhaling sharply. “That’s a hell of a claim. Where’s the proof? ”

“We don’t have the kind of proof you’re asking for. Not yet. But we have fragments—patterns, disappearances, alignments that don’t add up. Too many to ignore. ”

Lucien frowned, crossing his arms. “Fragments aren’t enough. People don’t vanish without a trace. ”

She stepped closer, lowering her voice. “Don’t they? How many unexplained reassignments have you come across in your department? Gaps in records that shouldn ’t exist?”
