For 2024, it will display the works of Olaf Hajek, a German

based illustrator, painter and graphic designer, renowned for

his vibrant style.

“For over 20 years now, Gengenbach’s town hall has been a

magical attraction during Advent,” the local tourist board’s

site explains. “With its 24 windows it is transformed into the

world’s largest Advent calendar house. It is an overwhelming

spectacle until the last of the 24 windows is opened and the

town hall shines in all its splendor.”

Each evening, the town hall opens a window shade to reveal a new

piece of art.

The event reportedly began as a way for local businesses to

attract more visitors during the colder months, as the town was

mainly a summer destination.

Now, from November 30 to December 23 every year, thousands flock

to see the dazzling array and wander the town’s Christmas

markets.
