Droids are not supposed to express in a human way. They can only answer direct questions.
We were expecting information about a malfunction, an error in the code or any sort of that nature. I proceeded as normal.
“You say you felt … sorryness?” I asked in disbelief.
“I felt pity for them. I am sorry” He said again facing down.
General Az stepped up “What the fuck is this? Is this a joke? Did you program it for amusement?” He asked.
“Wait” i said “Bring me A-1”
General Az sat down again. A-1’s the drone who diagnoses malfunctions. I ordered a complete scan 3141, it took a minute then reported 100% functionality and ready for battle.
Bitter silence again.
“Shoot the target above you,” I said, waiting for a different angle to continue my trial.
Droid changed too battle position, faced up, “I have no current weapon sir, nor target above me”
“If there were a target above you and you had a weapon, would you feel pity for the target?” I asked
“No sir” he responded
“Then why did you say you felt pity for the enemy?” I asked.
“Their faces, sir” He said
“What about their faces, 3141?”
“They looked at us as if they had no chance of survival, as if they were doomed. So i disobeyed”
He said again facing down “i’m sorry”
The room exploded in murmurings from scientist to scientist. Az's face was in disbelief. I felt my blood pressure fal ing down.
“The elves did this!” Az screamed. “They infiltrated our network to reprogram our droids!”
“There are no elves on this Mars region," I said. “and our network is impenetrable”
“There must be, then what explanation can you offer, scientist?” Az was standing up by now among several other col eagues.
“I store extra energy in my core battery” 3141 interrupted.
Murmurs started again in the room. Droids would never speak unless they are told to.
“What do you mean by that, droid?” I asked.
