Using challenging emotions to build deeper trust and strengthen safety.
- Viewing jealousy not as a shameful failing or a threat, but as a valuable shared emotional signal indicating an unmet need or fear, or a boundary that requires attention.
- Developing the ability to view triggering situations as neutral events that activate internal insecurities rather than as personal affronts or failures.
- Distinguishing the feeling of jealousy (fear of losing something you have) from envy (wanting something someone else has) in order to identify the root cause and possible solutions.
- Using jealousy as an opportunity for growth, reassurance, and deeper connection.
- Approaching the feeling as a 'team sport'. The goal is not to blame, but for all involved to collaboratively understand and address the root cause or underlying needs, strengthening the network's security.
- Cultivating the emotional skill of feeling authentic happiness for a partner's joy in their other relationships (compersion) as a way to soothe feelings of jealousy.
