I woke up with a huge headache. My left side felt heavy and was throbbing, probably because of the hit. My ankles felt tied up. I was sitting in a chair in a dark place. I heard people talking. They were discussing something, but I couldn't make out anything at the beginning. I opened my eyes slowly to try and concentrate and get a better look. One of them wielded a crystal ball, making it float in the air between his hands. It played images  as thought there were a world inside it. They looked like the same people that attacked us before.

The other one was playing with a deck of cards, making then move throughout the air. I recognized some tarot figures. I felt someone moving behind me, and I faked unconsciousness to see if they'd spill something useful while I waited.

"I don't know what he saw in her," I heard a woman say. "Maestro William always has had weird tastes."

"I don't know," A man with a deep voice said. "She doesn't look half bad.  If I have the chance, I might check her out for myself..."

I felt a sudden shock of fear over his interest in me. But I kept myself still and quiet, and hoped that he would forget I was there.

"She is immune to our powers...Maybe we should find out how." The first voice said.

My fears multiplied at the idea of how exactly they were going to find out. I was going to start to tremble and they will know I was awake and start their exploration. Then I heard a voice that I would recognize anywhere.

"My father already gave his orders. William cares about her, so we might be able to convince him to join us once and for all. But we need her alive and healthy for it, so no touching the skank. She is under my protection until we achieve our goal, capisce?"

I felt relief and fear. William was going to be set up and I was going to be the bait. At least I knew I wasn't going to get killed.

"...yet."

I stayed there as still as I could, thinking about what could I do. I waited until the people were gone and I couldn't  hear a noise, and opened my eyes again. Samantha was still around she seemed to be cleaning up the place with his magic. I checked that it was only her, so silently I tried to find the ring on my finger to warn William, but it was not there.

"They must have known it was a link to him and taken it."

"Or it just fell off while I was unconscious." Whatever had happened, I was alone.

I took a look at the place. It was like an abandoned storage room. I could see card boxes and a metal door. There was some furniture scattered around and many debris like they had been shooting inside it.

"Maybe practicing magic out of boredom?"

Samantha kept cleaning it. I noticed that although they tied me up, they didn't tie me to the chair. I could get up and get a hold of something.

I saw Samantha turning her back to me. I got to my feet without making any noise and I reached for a nearby log and thought of hitting her with it. But up in the air, at the last minute,

"I can't."

The hit would have been fatal for her; I couldn't bring myself to kill her in cold blood. I just let it go, defeated.

"Wow,  that was impressive," she said, turning around.  "You don't have the heart of a murderer. That's good. It means you're not going to give us any problems, and William will have no choice but to join us." She gave me a cold and brittle smile. And I felt the chair moving behind me, forcing me to sit. The ropes around my legs and hands disappeared.

"You obviously don't need the restrains"

"I feel like crap."

"If it makes you feel better, it wouldn't have worked anyway. I would have turned that log into birds and made them attack you. If anything, you kept yourself safe," She  said.   I felt mad at her mockery<
