It was night time again and I needed to get home. I was a bit worried for Mom, though I also dreaded talking to her again. I was also tired. It had been a really long day.
"Will I be safe there?"
"Yes. Samantha thinks you live somewhere else - another trick from Maggie," William said, winking. We got in the car, fastening my seat belt. He pulled me to his side, and I tucked my head on his shoulder and hugged him all the way home. During the ride, we kissed and hugged all the way. The night had stars all over the sky and a light cool breeze was making the trees and signs dance in slow motion.
When he parked in front of my house, we kissed for a while more. I was growing addicted to his touch.
"What time do you need to be at work tomorrow?" He asked as I got out of the car. I walked over to the driver's side and leaned against the car door.
"My shift starts at noon...Thank goodness. I can sleep a bit late." "See you tomorrow, then. I love you."
He grabbed my hand through the open car window and pulled me toward his lips. We shared a long kiss, and then, he let me go. I watched the car floating through the air. I sighed and headed in to my house, dancing in circles on my way to the door.
"I'd never felt so happy before in my life."
But life was going to ruin it: Mom was up, standing in the doorway and she looked "Sober!"
I feared that my mother had somehow seen the flying car. My stomach, before filled with butterflies, was now filled with stones.
"Hi mom," I said my voice trailing off.
"Hi," she said. Her voice was serious. "I need to talk to you."
For once, I'd rather preferred that she was drunk than sober. Though, when I passed her to enter the house, I noticed the smell of liquor.
"Maybe she will pass out all while lecturing me on whatever she thought I did wrong."
"It wouldn't be the first time."
"Let's sit in the kitchen," She said. I followed her. Being in my house again felt weird, like this was a stranger's place, not the home I had known for long. She gestured to one of the chairs and I sat down, waiting with anxiety to hear what she was about to say.
"Look, I know you've just had your first lover and are all excited and crazy about him," She began, "but I don't want you to take this guy that serious. There is no commitment in college."
I couldn't hear her ramble on again with her usual sex talk. Not now, after knowing how much of it was just lies.
"Mom, I know," I said, getting up. "I've been late a couple of times lately, but it's not for the boy, it's for homework. I'm not taking anyone serious." My mom got up as well, placing a firm hand on my shoulder.
"I'm not done yet," She said. I sat down again.
"I don't want to be the mom," She continued, "Think of me as your friend. I think you should hang out with someone else, anyone else. Make sure you don't fall for this guy, you don't need to break up with him just opening yourself to other experiences..." I could barely hear her.
"She was advising to do the same idiotic thing she did!" I wanted to fight. Gale was ready for it, but then I remembered William and our problems.
"You're right, mom!" I said "You remember that cute boy who came over last time? He kind of asked me to hang out. I'll probably see him again tomorrow." She almost tossed the table when she jumped to hug me and kiss me.
"That's great! You're doing better than I thought. I can see many hot boys in your life if you continue like this."
"I want to barf..." But I faked a smile and a yawn.
"I'm tired now...all that sex, you know?" I said. Her eyes lit up. "Of course, of course," She said. "You need to go to <
