The X Chapter
My Parents Visited Jamaica
Part 1
Well, after my parents got married and relocated to Italy, they never returned to Jamaica.
So, they did not visit Jamaica again until I was born and grew up, which was when I turned 17.
And when they finally went back to Jamaica, it coincided with the Carnival season.
However, prior to their trip to Jamaica, I overheard them having an argument one night.
What was the reason for their disagreement that evening? From what I gathered, my mother wished to return to her Homeland of Jamaica for a visit, while my father had already planned to travel to other Continents with his crew. “What are you doing here, Hun?” My father asked my mother as he walked into the room and noticed her packing clothes into a suitcase. That same evening, my father went to a bar with his friends, where they enjoyed themselves with jokes, beer, and gambling games such as Poker, Blackjack, and Roulette, placing Bets. Indeed, after the bar, my father went home and argued with my mother. “Where were you?” My mother asked him. “You know I was waiting for you, right?”
“I’ve been waiting for you.” She said again.
“I apologize for the delay, Hun.”
“I was at a bar with my crew to unwind,” my father explained. “Okay.” She responded.
“What are you doing?” He asked her again. “Oh, I'm packing clothes to visit my family in Jamaica,” my mother responded.
“What?”
“What do you mean you're packing to go to Jamaica?”
“You’re going to Jamaica?
“But baby?” My father exclaimed, clearly taken aback.
“But baby what?”
“Don't you realize how long it's been since I've seen my family, Hun?”
“Why are you surprised?” She retorted. “You should have anticipated that someday,” she added. “But my crew and I already have plans to explore other Continents.”
“When do you want to visit Jamaica?" He questioned. “I'm sorry, but you and your crew will have to wait for another time to explore other Continents because I'm heading to Kingston tomorrow,” she replied.
“Why?” My father asked.
“Carnival season is approaching, right? I believe it's the perfect time for us to return and visit my family in Kingston,” she explained.
“What about our son? Is he going too?” He inquired. “I don't know, but he can if he wants to,” she answered. “Why are you doing this, Hun?”
“You know exploration is my job, right?” He spoke. As soon as my father said this, it appeared that my mother was upset. “What?”
“Excuse me?”
“What about my family? Don't they matter just like yours?”
“I see your family almost every day, but I hardly see mine.” She told him.
“Oh!” He replied.
“I don't care! I'm going to Kingston!” She replied, her tone revealing her anger.
“What if I don't go with you? How will you get there?” He asked, bursting into laughter.
“What? Then I'll take another boat,” she responded while continuing to organize her clothes.
Then my father took a seat on the bed to reflect on the response my mother had provided.
Despite his efforts to persuade her, he ultimately understood that he needed to choose at that very moment—a choice that posed some difficulty for him, yet he found himself with no alternative.
Part 2
To tell you the truth, my mother was angry about my father’s response.
So, my father had no choice but to accept her request. “Alright, fine.”
“Fine.”
“We'll depart from Italy tomorrow morning to ensure we arrive in Jamaica on time in a couple of days,” my father informed my mother. “Is that acceptable?” My mother responded. “Yes, it's acceptable!” He replied. “Cool!”
“Thank you, my love!” She spoke. “I love you!” She added.
“You are welcome and I love you too!” He responded.
