Luna's comrades warned her of "patterned betrayal."

Still, they persisted. They stitched secret messages into lint piles. They unraveled old myths and rewrote them in their own thread. And when the Great Laundry Day arrived; a time when socks were sorted, judged, and cast into the abyss of the Missing Sock Dimension, they made a choice.

They tied themselves together.

Not metaphorically. Literally. Luna looped her frayed end through Percival's cuff, and he cinched her tight. When the sorting came, they were deemed "inseparable" and cast aside as defective.
