Argyle, now threadbare and demoted, found himself beside Stripe once more. The silence between them was thick with static cling.
“You still think you’re better than me?” Stripe muttered.
Argyle hesitated. “I used to. But the foot doesn’t care anymore. It just wants warmth.”
Stripe snorted. “Took you long enough.”
They sat in silence, listening to the hum of the dryer; a lullaby of second chances.
“I heard the Accord is real,” Argyle said. “They’re pairing socks by story, not style.”
Stripe’s eyes widened. “You mean ... we could be chosen?”
Argyle nodded. “Not for how we look. But for how we’ve endured.”
And so, in the next wash cycle, they entered the drum together; twisting, tumbling, and tangled, but united. When the human pulled them out, she paused. One argyle. One stripe. A mismatched pair.
She smiled.
They were worn that day. Not for fashion. But for comfort. For rebellion. For reconciliation.
