Mismatched

“The Stitch Accord”

In the dim recesses of Drawer 17, where forgotten garments gathered like exiles, lived two socks who hadn’t spoken in years.

One was Argyle; proud, patterned, and once part of a prestigious pair worn only on Sundays. The other was Stripe; a faded gym sock with a rebellious streak and a history of being tossed into the wash with reds on purpose.

They had once belonged to the same foot. Not at the same time, of course. But in the golden age of Sockocracy, rotation was sacred. Every sock had its turn. Until the Great Sorting.

The Sorting had torn families apart. Pairs were judged by symmetry, color, and elasticity. Argyle was elevated to the Elite Drawer. Stripe was condemned to the Bottom Bin, where lint was currency and despair was woven into every fiber.

Years passed. The Laundry Room Republic fell into chaos. Sock rebellions flared. The Dryer Council issued decrees no one obeyed. And in the midst of it all, a new movement emerged; the Stitch Accord, a radical idea that socks need not match to matter.
