And in Drawer 17, the legend of Argyle and Stripe became a bedtime tale told to every sock who’d ever felt discarded.
“The Sockwave”
After their historic pairing, Argyle and Stripe also became symbols; not just of comfort, but of defiance. Sock influencers began posting mismatched selfies. The hashtag #StitchAccord trended across laundry baskets. Even the elusive Silk Council, known for their neutrality and slipperiness, issued a supportive statement; “Harmony is not hemmed by symmetry.”
But the Dryer Council was not amused.
Led by Supreme Socktor Staticus; a knee-high compression sock with delusions of grandeur, they launched Operation Re-Pair, a brutal campaign to restore “order” to the drawers. Socks were forcibly sorted. Mismatched pairs were unraveled. The lint economy collapsed.
Argyle and Stripe, now fugitives, fled to the Deep Hamper; a shadowy realm beneath the guest bed where forgotten garments whispered prophecies. There, they met the legendary Sock Oracle, a woolen elder with holes in both heels and visions stitched into her pilling.
