4. DECIDE TO LIVE WELL
Someone said, "Living well is the best revenge."
What is it that you would really love to experience in life? Are there dreams you put on the back burner so long ago that the fire went out, the pot is cold and gathering dust?
Do you have a friend or family member you often provide a listening ear for? Or perhaps you are the one in your circle that others go to for advice on relationships because you are demonstrating happiness in your own marriage.
Spread that circle outward.
It's easy to tell ourselves "tomorrow" I'll do better at this, and then the next day we act in the same way and shy away from taking the big leaps into the unknown territory where our dreams are fulfilled.
We always have a choice, often it feels as if we are a victim of our own thoughts and feelings. And each instant we can ask ourselves: Am I aggravating the problem, or am I helping to resolve it?
We always have the option to take a different path.
Instead of responding in kind to Trump's hate-filled messages of building walls and dissolving hard won rights, and overturning environmental support, let us use our immense energy to neutralize his power, and create more good instead.
When we live well, we wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, ready for the new day to begin. During the day, we bring our gifts into our waking hours as we work, go to school, care for children and the elderly. Everywhere we go, we can offer kindness to others, we can live from a central core of love and compassion, we can take steps toward our personal goals and dreams.
If you feel that your life is in a frenzy and out of control, take time to reflect on what you hope to accomplish by all that rushing around. It's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind that society seems to be saying you should want. It takes more thought effort to examine the options and make a decision for yourself of what lifestyle brings you the most joy and satisfaction.
"It is not enough to be busy.
So are the ants.
The question is:
What are we busy about?"
Henry David Thoreau
Living well means that you feel you are growing and expanding in joy and creativity. It's not about a bank balance, it's about the balance you feel in your calm heart.
