Chapter 7
The alarm clock went off at five thirty in the morning and, as usual, the teens were slow to rise but eventually, mustered the energy to carry out the morning’s ritual. Discovering that the hotel had a free continental breakfast, they quickly took advantage, filling their stomachs almost to capacity. However, there was one exception. Kate was quite a small-framed girl and was not accustomed to such large portions. The mere sight of her friends cramming their faces with what was, essentially junk food, nearly made her ill, but she managed to distract herself by turning away and engaging her mother in conversation. “So, mom,” she began. “What’s up with you and the driver? You planning on getting lucky?”
Elaine had been under the impression that everyone had fallen asleep on the way over, and met Kate’s curiosity with a bit of humor. “Why?” she asked. “Do you think I should ask him out? Let me tell ya’ something, kiddo, these double doors are almost rusted shut and I definitely need someone to pry them open.” Letting out a sigh of frustration, she quietly followed up with something that immediately closed the conversation.
“God, I’ll bet he’s got a huge dick.” Responding with embarrassment, Kate quickly brought her hands up over her flushed face. “Jesus Christ, mom, not here! What is wrong with you?”
The one thing she didn’t need to hear from her mother was anything about the male anatomy. Fortunately, she was the only person to hear her mother’s remarks. Yet, it would take her quite some time to get the conversation out of her head. Certainly, she would never bring up the issue of men again, At least, not with her mother.
“Hey,” she said. “I have needs.” A last parting shot. If it was one thing Elaine had in abundance, it was a twisted sense of humor.
