CHAPTER 31 – BROKEN WINGS

The air was thick with the scent of rain and regret as Meera stood by the window, her gaze lost in the distant horizon. The world outside was a blur, the dark clouds swirling like the chaos inside her heart. She felt it—the pull of something deep inside, something painful, something torn. Her wings had been clipped.

The fall had been inevitable. She had been flying high, riding the winds of hope, of love, of freedom. But somewhere along the way, the storm had come. Aarav had been the tempest. His love, once a gentle breeze, had twisted into something unrecognizable, something destructive. And now, here she was—broken, bruised, and lost.

Her heart was still shattered, her mind still haunted by the choices she had made.

She thought she had escaped. Thought she had found a way out of the dark abyss he had created for her. But as much as she tried to run, to break free, Aarav was always there, lurking in the shadows, a constant presence she could never shake. His grip was unrelenting, his promises like chains she couldn’t break.

But she wasn’t the same girl who had fallen for his dark charms. No. She had changed. The pain had hardened her, reshaped her. She wasn’t sure if that was a blessing or a curse.

But now, in the quiet aftermath of it all, Meera realized something. She wasn’t broken because of Aarav. She wasn’t a victim of his twisted love. No, she had been broken long before him.

Her wings had been shattered the moment she allowed herself to believe in something that was never meant to be.

A knock at the door pulled her out of her thoughts.

She didn’t need to open it. She knew who it was. He had come for her. Again. Aarav.

“Meera,” his voice came through the door, low and demanding. “I know you're in there. Open the door. We need to talk.”

Her pulse quickened, but she didn’t move. Not this time. She had been a prisoner of his love for far too long. The power, the control, the obsession—it had all been part of his game. But she was done playing. She wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of breaking her again.

Aarav didn’t wait for an invitation. He kicked the door open with a force that sent it crashing against the wall. He stormed in, his eyes wild, his breath heavy with rage. But there was something else in his eyes—something desperate.

“Meera, I can’t do this without you,” he said, his voice low, raw. “You know that. I’ve tried, but I need you.”

She looked at him, her heart pounding, her soul aching. But all she could see now was the monster he had become. The man who had torn her apart, the man who had used her for his own twisted desires. He was no longer the man she loved, and maybe he never had been. He was the storm that had broken her wings.

“No,” she whispered, her voice trembling but firm. “You don’t need me, Aarav. You need control. You need power. And I... I’m not going to be part of your game anymore.”

His face twisted in pain, and for a moment, she thought she saw a flicker of the man he used to be—the one who had loved her, who had made her feel like she was everything. But that man was gone. He had been replaced by someone darker, someone dangerous. Someone she could no longer recognize.

“You don’t understand, Meera,” he growled, stepping closer, his presence suffocating. “I can’t breathe without you. I’ve tried... but I can’t.”

But she didn’t move. She didn’t flinch. Aarav was nothing more than a shadow now.

“You were never meant to be my salvation, Aarav,” she said, her voice steady. “You were never meant to fix me. You were the one who broke me in the first place. And I’m done. I’m done with the lies, done with the games.”

His eyes widened, his face going pale with realization. The truth had hit him harder than he ever expected. She was gone.

Not physically, not yet—but emotionally, she had walked away.

“You can’t leave me, Meera,” his voice cracked, the raw desperation in it almost making her second-guess herself. “I won’t let you.”

“You don’t get to decide that anymore,” she said quietly, the tears that had been threatening to fall now welling up in her eyes, but not from sadness—no, this was the feeling of freedom.

She was free from him. She was free from the chains he had wrapped around her heart.

“I loved you,” he whispered, his voice breaking. “But I never knew how to love you the right way.”

“No, Aarav,” she said, her voice firm. “You never loved me. You loved the idea of me. And that’s why we’re here. That’s why I’m leaving.”

And with those final words, Meera turned and walked away.

Her wings, once broken, were now healing. It would take time—so much time—but she was ready. Ready to soar again. Ready to fly higher than she ever had before. And this time, she would never fall.
