Chapter Three

 

 

After Demar’s refused to go with her over to Dania’s house to confront her about his love affair with her, Naomi tidied up her house. She and Demar had met since he came to teach school up here. She had been warned that he was along with Dania. They had a steamy love affair while in college. She had been told that she had wanted him to follow her up here when she was coming, two years ago for them to continue the relationship. He had relocated to St. Elizabeth where she knew that he had a number of steamy affairs. That he finally came up here showed that either he wasn’t getting enough down there, or she wasn’t getting enough up here and had sent for him. She decided to call Dania.

Dania was on her veranda relaxing when her cell phone rang. Naomi was on the line. She wondered what she wanted. She and that girl weren’t friends as she was along with her man. Nevertheless, she decided to take the call.

“Dania, are you along with Demar?”

“Of course not, why do you ask?”

“You know that I’m along with him. I saw some nude photos of you in his room.”

“What! You must be joking? They must have been doctored. How else could he get nude photos of me? Is that how he gets his kicks?”

“I think you are just pretending. You know how he got them,” Naomi told her and ended the call.

Immediately she finished talking to Naomi, Dania called Demar. He was seated in one of the plastic chairs on his veranda. He was drinking a malt beverage.

“Why did you show Naomi naked pictures of me?”

“They were old picture, from college days. I didn’t show her, she just found them. I don’t know what she was searching for.”

“Destroy any picture of me that you have. That girl is a bit too talkative for me. What did you tell her about us?”

“I told her that we were once lovers, but we broke up after first year.”

“You shouldn’t have told her anything. She’s too inquisitive.”

“Is it true that Fitz is in love with you?”

“I don’t know anything about him. I know who I’m in love with and it’s you.”

“So why don’t you just dump Scott and come to me?”

“Don’t you get me when you want me? I want certain things out of him that you can’t give me. You will just have to be patient. You just wouldn’t understand. But remember I’m also sharing you with Naomi.”

“I’d get rid of her this instance if you dumped that guy,” he said and ended the call.

Twenty minutes later, Demar called Naomi.

“Naomi, you’re a big liar, you were snooping around and found the pictures.”

“Listen Demar, I heard about you and her from some of your batchmates. You and she were living at the Links hotel. Scott will catch up with both of you soon.”

“As I told you it only happened in first year. She went out with other guys after that. Lloydie is having a party at his house tomorrow night. Do you want to go?”

“Why don’t you take your woman with you?”

“Who are you talking about?”

“You know who I’m talking about. I think if you continue fooling around that girl you and Scott will soon be fighting.”

“You’re just trying to spread rumors about me and her,” he told her and ended the call.

Dania was on her veranda still relaxing when her cell phone rang. Juliet was on the line. She wondered what she wanted. Juliet was in her living room sitting in a sofa and drinking a sorrel beer. Outside the rain was pouring down.

“I know all about you and Demar. I have friends who were batchmates of both of you. You were sleeping with just about any man you could find.”

“Juliet, you’re just bitter because I have Scott and you want him.”

Juliet burst out laughing.

“I just have to snap my fingers for him to come running. I will be coming to Lloydie’s party and you can’t stop me from dancing with him.”

At the party, Carl was there with Janice. He saw Fitz and Denise enter the party and flew into a rage. He and Janice started arguing with each other.

“I still think that you’re carrying feelings for Denise.”

“She shouldn’t be leaving Carrie alone to come and party with Fitz of all persons.”

Tula heard what Carl was saying.

“My mother is taking care of our children. You’re just jealous, Carl. You don’t want Denise to talk to any other man, but you are out with a woman.”

Fitz, Denise and Tula found seats on some benches. He went and bought food for them, and they sat and had it.

“Carl wants to still go to bed with me, but I refused. He even said that after I had my baby, we would get married. He was even proposing that I move in with him. From he met Janice everything changed. He stopped paying me any attention. She was the focus of all his attention.”

Fitz found himself dancing alternatively with the sisters. He hoped Jack would soon arrive to take Denise off his hands so that he could concentrate on Tula.

Juliet had come to the party and was dancing with Scott. Dania was nearby watching them dance

and cutting her eyes at her. Juliet danced one more time with him before Dania claimed him.

Demar and Naomi had made up and were now dancing together. Jack came to the party and saw Denise dancing with Fitz. He waited until they finished dancing before he drew her away.

“Why did you come to the party with that guy?”

“What’s wrong if I came here with Fitz and danced with him?”

“He isn’t a good person. I don’t want you to have anything to do with him.”

“You can’t stop me from talking to or dancing with him,” she said and went into a corner to sit on a bench.

Carl watched them argue, at the same time laughing at Fitz. Later, he was surprised to see Tula in his arms. Fitz was lucky because Tula and her last boyfriend broke up six months ago. She knew that Denise only came to the party with Fitz knowing that her real boyfriend, Jack, would soon arrive.

“Where is your baby father, Tula?”

“We broke up around six months ago. I thought you knew.”

“I thought the two of you were still going around together.”

“I should ask you about your woman.”

“I’m in the same position as you. It’s about the same time we’ve broken up too.”

Tula was wearing a short jeans pants, tube top and slippers. Fitz was wearing a jeans pants, a polo shirt and sneakers. Later he went to buy food for both of them and they sat and had it. After a while they resume dancing again. At around one o’clock that morning they left for the Hill View hotel. Tula saw Denise dancing with Jack and knew she would be going home to sleep with him. At the hotel Fitz and Tula had a bath before they made love.

“Fitz, I won’t do it with you without a condom.”

Later she asked him.

“Is it true that you are looking Dania?”

“She’s Scott’s woman. I don’t know why people are going about spreading rumors about me and her? Because Denise came to the party with me, you saw how Jack was behaving when he saw me dancing with her.”

“I don’t like him. I don’t know what’s wrong with her. First it was Carl and now it’s Jack. Anyway, Fitz if I didn’t like you, I wouldn’t have gone to bed with you. And you are a very good lover.”

He kissed her and they make love again before dropping off to sleep. In the morning they both had a big breakfast before checking out of the hotel.

Jack had taken Denise home as she said she had to go in to tend to her daughter. Carl passed them and saw her going into her house and laughed. He was going home to sleep with a woman while Jack went home empty handed. He thought Fitz was lucky as he had gone down to the Hill View to sleep with Tula. She was a real sexy girl, and he knew that several guys had been after her. He and Janice made love up in his bedroom in the early hours of the morning.

“Carl, everywhere you go and see Denise, you have to pick a quarrel with her.”

“I’ve seen her in restaurants, on the streets and in supermarkets. It’s only when I see her at parties and know she’s neglecting Carrie.”

“I think you’re jealous, especially when you see her with either Fitz or Jack.”

He burst out laughing.

“Those two guys are the worst people I know. They used to call Fitz, the back road specialist. He used to live on the Portmore, Jackson and Keswick back roads. Jack is probably worse than him.”

“Do you want her back?”

“Of course not, I have you, what would I be doing with her?”

“It’s very embarrassing, I wish you would stop it.”

“All I do is give her money for the child.”

“I heard her complaining that you want her to go to bed with you before you give her money.”

“She is not telling the truth. Most times it’s her mother or Tula I give the money to give her.”

Scott had taken Dania home and they were quarrelling. They were actually sitting on her veranda drinking sorrel beers.

“If you want to go to Juliet, you can always go, since she was before me. I suppose you are going down to her house.”

“I have a busy day in Kingston tomorrow. I have to look about some papers for the vehicles, so I have to leave from early in the morning.”

So, he left a fuming Dania. After he left, she felt like calling Demar, but she was sure he was there with Naomi. Fitz had gone to sleep with Tula. She would never call him as she didn’t want to encourage him. She wondered if Scott knew that Demar was her man. She wondered if he knew that anytime she wanted Fitz she could get him, despite what Tula might say or do. She was sure that Scott had gone to sleep with Juliet. She would soon fix her business for her.

Scott knocked on Juliet’s door that morning, but there was no answer. Juliet was inside, but she pretended as if she was sleeping. He took out his cell phone and called her, but it kept going to voice mail. Finally, frustrated, he jumped into his car and drove home. Later that morning he called her again.

“I didn’t hear you knocking.”

“I was calling you, but I kept getting your voice mail.”

“My phone needed charging. I didn’t realize it until this morning.”

“You sound angry to me. I think you were vexed because I danced with Dania so many times.”

“So why didn’t you stay with her? I would prefer if you stayed with her and leave me alone.”

“We always had a good thing going on, why spoil it?”

“I think you prefer her to me.”

“I virtually live with her,” he told her and ended the call.

An hour later, Dania called her.

“Juliet, I like how you have to be playing second fiddle to me. He came to you last night after we had a good work out.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. He would never dare come to me after he had been to another woman.”

“He prefers me to you because I’m better looking and sexier than you.”

“Dania, stop it you hear. I don’t know which part of you is sexier or better looking than me. He is not going to leave me.”

“Well, he’s not going to leave me either, but I’ll soon give him an ultimatum and we’ll see what happens.”

“He should know about the amount of men you’re keeping with him. I’ve heard that Demar is your man, so too is Fitz.”

“Go on digging up dirt, I hope you dig up some on yourself,” Dania said and ended the call.
