Plotting an assassination and a war

“How dare he defile himself. He has brought shame to our family. It is my elven duty to avenge the shame.” The king of Elvaden throws the despicable letter into the fire and calls for his special squad leader.

“You are to dispatch your best person and not only kill that insolent man but also the abomination that he is calling his family. The four are not to be allowed to exist.” The king’s written orders are handed to the assassin by the king’s scribe. He cannot sully his hands with such an abominable task. After all, that is why a god has servants.

After that, the king must pray to himself. He must be alone so he sends all away. The scribe hands one of the staff a copy of the letter with the instructions to deliver it to Raval directly and then ask for refuge. The young elf thanks the scribe and runs for his life. Elvaden is no longer a place for the young let alone his young family. They make it out of the kingdom by the long but safe route.

Raval is once again reading a message of warning from his people. The Informer needs to deliver a message to the king. This time, he does print. The message is delivered by the same brush man. King Draco sends an alert to all the towers and to the Clan of Martin’s manor teams to be alert to any possible infiltrators.

The strange thing is, an older elf is walking in the open towards one of the towers. He has his hands us and is yelling that he surrenders. They find that he does not have any weapons on him but he does tell them where to find them. He saw the tower and shed them.

They retrieve them and they are the tools of his trade.

Upon the interrogation, which was actually cordial on both parts, he said that he was ordered to kill Raval and his family for shaming the kings family. “but the king has been on a killing spree of all those caught trying to flee the kingdom.”

Now even guards are turning a blind eye to fleeing elves. The situation is getting dire in Elvaden because of his ascension to god hood. Only the old ones that agree with him are relatively safe. Many an elf has escaped the kings anger with only a half an ear. That has almost now become a badge of honor. Open defiance.

Raval is called to the tower and sees that the one who surrendered is his uncle. He greets the elf as an uncle not an enemy. His uncle apologizes to him for taking the assignment.

“It was the only way I could see to escape the king. Your mother and siblings all have been locked up or have died in their sleep. He really trusts no one since that letter he received from you. He now has a chapel with a life size statue of him but in a muscular battle pose. He prays to himself and I do not mean he is praying quietly. He worships himself.”

Even king Draco has to believe that the story is true. He orders that the man be confined to the tower grounds for a period of time for observation of his behavior. He gets reports that the elf is now teaching what he knows to the people of the tower. He is holding nothing secret.

His explanation is simple. “I know that he will send another with the same instructions but will add to hunt me out and kill me also. This is self preservation.”

The instructions, direct from king Draco is for anyone caught and they surrender, they will be observed like the first but if they fight, They drop from the clouds. There were a lot that did drop their weapons and openly surrendered to either a tower or a team manor.

The king of Elvaden is now livid. Is he the only competent person on this world. All he sent have not returned. He still has not heard of any success. Stil the abomination and that family lives. Now he must take care of this situation himself. He will also take care of the lizards. Afterall, he is the one and only god.

All has failed. Incompetence! This time the king is going to see for himself. His generals are being required to lead. He, because he is a god, must ride in a carriage befitting a god.

The king of Elvaden sits in his throne room. He now demands that people do not disturb him when he is worshiping himself. Right now he is rethinking just how superior other elves really are. Compared to himself, the epidemy of elves, the remainder of our species fall to the level of the animals.

It is all he has to work with but he really needs to evaluate each elf after he conquers the lizards. There needs to be a castration of those he deems sublevel elves. They are going to be used as cannon fodder in future battles. They will have the honor of dying for me.

Finally, he reflects on exactly what those failures have done to show just how low this race has sunk.

I have had it! A god should not be surrounded by such incompetence. The slavers failed, marauders were mediocre. And I still cannot figure out why anyone would leave this countenance. My glorious light of intellect. The only thing it could be is that they did not flee, they are sleepers in the lizard’s area.

I should not have to do this but when in the company of fools, I need to show them what a god can do.

He calls the generals in to reveal his brilliant plans and the generals will be honored to be a critical part of it. There will be a hundred elven archers and a hundred swords men along with the generals in front of the carriage as escorts.

Since this looks like it is the final Informer message, Raval now delivers it as the brush man but this time he wants to meet with king Draco. He has his twenty elves that played the major rolls in his spy network with him. For the others in that palace, it is time to reveal to all just who the Informer is. With this information, he feels that he needs to be there as a soldier.

Now I am standing in the throne room. Draco’s generals and his logistics people are here. I have large scrolls with what the invaders formations will look like. With me, are the elven spy network I had. Once inside, I take off my hood. I kneel and my spies do the same.

“King Draco, even though it has been shown to you by our actions, we hereby pledge our loyalty to the true king that you are. The final battle is at hand and we have all the information we will need to end the threat that the king of Elvaden poses. May we approach and show you the information you need?”

I hold up the map scroll and the message envelope.

He tells us that our loyalty has been demonstrated over the past year. “I am honored that you and your fellows have pledged it but your actions are of more worth. Words can be twisted but actions cannot. Please stand as equals in this room and in this world.”

We stand and now the generals join us at a table that has been brought forth.

I spread the map and say, “Each of my fellows have their share of the details but I now will give the overall. The king of Elvaden is now a god, in his mind. He feels that all are of lower intelligence than him. There are no other gods. He takes part of his day alone worshiping himself. This is the state of his mind.”

The others give their portion of the preparations for the invasion and formations.

Now I finish, “His generals and right down to the lowest soldier are just looking for a chance to run. He cannot be seen riding a horse so he will be in a special carriage, fit for a god, at the back of the procession. He has declared that he will be the one to kill the lizard, as he refers to you my king.”

That causes Draco to laugh very hard. “I’ll say one thing, he has big balls but talk is cheap.”

King Draco lays out how he sees this battle shaping up, including the battle between a lizard and a god. All see the brilliance of the plan. He asks me “When does he plan on marching?”

“It looks like he will leave tomorrow morning. It should take the army a day or two days to reach your border. I would advise you to have one of your towers scout the border for his route. Then you can put your plan in motion.”

It is agreed but…
