Feeling desperate

The king of Elvaden is now getting mad at even his intelligence sector. Despite the first spies being discovered and being returned to Elvaden in disgrace, the information he is getting is not good. His genius is being thwarted. His people are making him look bad.

It is not him. He has taken action. Those who have failed him have had half of their right ear cut off but now some are just not coming back. He now needs to sacrifice his own family.

I need to write a letter to Raval. Grudgingly I will rename him heir and demand he return to where he belongs. I will set up a cleansing station on the border so he can go through the process of purifying himself so he can once again address me. I want him to tell me what he has learned. He has to have seen the critical flaws. After all, he has been meeting with that lizard. Then I will take care of that insolent bastard son of mine.

He sends it off in a brown paper wrapper. That is what those peasants use. He is very pleased because he knows for a fact that Raval has tricked that lizard into letting him set up a base in the lizard’s territory. He has just reaffirmed his superior thinking.

“Long live me” he yells.

Raval is enjoying his children. Along with his wife, his life is really good. Little did he know, this morning he will get something that will drop an opportunity in his lap. A letter is delivered to him. He opens it and starts laughing hysterically. He calls over Mazze and lets her read it.

She looks at the letter and then looks at her husband “Is this man serious? or is he just insane?”

“He’s dead serious. He is demanding that I become a spy for him but I still will need to be decontaminated before I can see him. He is just so self centered, I would not be surprised if he came out and declared himself as a god. I know how I am going to answer him. I will write my response but I will show king Draco both this letter and my response. By the way, I will let you read the response but I will suggest that you be on the toilet.”

I am inspired. I take out a paper and start writing.

“Dear Father, I have received your letter and will beg your forgiveness in not coming right now. We need at least a month or two before we can travel. Mazze, my goblin wife, has just given birth to twins. A boy named Honzo and the girl Gardo. You will love them as much as we do. I know that you will fall in love with both. After all, when I become king, Honzo would be the heir apparent. We hope to visit you in two months. Prince Raval.”

My caution to Mazze was correct. I hear her laughing and water running. She comes out and tells me “You know that he will need to go through that decontamination process, including his eyes for even reading this.”

She now gets serious. “You do know that you will never be able to return to Elvaden once you send this.”

“That is not home for me.” I hug her. “Where you and my children are is my home. King Draco is a true king. Fair, loving but justice for all equally. This land is my home. I am no longer a prince.”

Now I go to the palace and ask for an audience. I was shown to the same side room that Mazze and I were shown to. The king comes in and I stand. He tells me to sit.

“Congratulations on the birth of your twins. You will love and protect them. They are the future. Now what can I do for you today.?”

“I have received a letter from the king of Elvaden demanding that I return to the kingdom and become a spy for him. In return he will graciously return me to the heir of the throne. I know him. After my usefulness is over, he will dispose of me. The sudden royal night deaths”

I present him with the original letter. He looks very concerned as he hands the letter back to me.

I hand him my letter “This is my response.”

He now is breaking up. “You know how to pull his chains. This is worded beautifully. He will need to change his drawers. You do know that you will be a target for assassination. Do you really want to send this?”

“This is my home now. My family is here. I would never be able to bring my wife and children there because they would be murdered as mongrels.”

Draco winces and turns away as he remembers his wife Zoe being murdered defending their ten year old daughter Sorra so many long years ago. He regains his composure and once again turns to me. He relates the tale of his constant suffering from the loss of his beloved wife.

“I do ask you to watch those you love. Send your response or not. That king will now target you but I know that you will know when that happens. After all, you are the Informer.

I see that you are shocked. I had a feeling that you were but you should have tried to disguised your writing. This style is exactly the same. I will never disclose this but I thank you. Everything you have sent me has been one hundred percent correct. I ask you to keep it up. Whoever you have, they are good at what they are doing.”

To say I am shocked is an understatement. ”I guess that I am not as clever as I thought. I will deliberately now just print.”

We wrap up the letter and the king has it taken to a nearby human town to mail it. I am escorted home.
