Desertion

There has been a dramatic change in Elvaden. The majority of the elven population recognize that the king is insane but he has an army that carry out his orders. There have been elves that have had an ear cut in half for failing to do an outrageous order.

He is driving them towards war for the old feeling of elven superiority. If he is the epidemy of elven evolution, we are doomed to die. The older ones usually sit in the gathering places and take credit for all the wins but blame the youth for the failure.

Young singles and families are leaving Elvaden by what ever way they can but always to the dragon rules lands. They are at peace. They accept all as people, not sub races. Even the prince, his son, ran in the night. The successful do the same.

At first, the guard would capture those they saw fleeing. Now at worst will yell, “Hay you, Stop!” Then they would turn away and go to lunch. Some would chase after them while pleading for the ones escaping to take them with them.

This king is now rumored to be hiring mercenaries to act as marauders. They are hired to kill and burn the villages in dragon lands. Elvaden’s king is totally insane. No one can stand up to the Clan of the Dragon and their fellow clansmen the Clan of Martian.

Both clans study then plan. The leaders realize that they are mortal and open to suggestions. Our king now feels that he is one of the gods. Soon he will elevate himself to the only god position. Our land is screwed.

The marauders fail miserably. Most of the dragons population, if not all have been trained in self defense. They have towers and team manors throughout their lands. Villagers know that they are the first defense. Gone are those days of being slaughtered. At least for the villagers. They all respond to the call.

Marauders stood no chance. Running into a village yelling with torches, those torches were used to light their funeral pyres. The worse injury to the villagers were cuts and bruises.

They were trained but in a different way. There are ones that can do the aggressive fighting. Those are the ones that do the bulk of the fighting. Second line is the defense of those too old or too young to be able to fight. They protect those people and the healers.

A well thought out and executed plan that frankly most of the king’s army or the manor teams delight in only helping mop up. It is not that they don’t want to fight the main battle, it is that they are so proud of the people they serve.

The dragon armies are for the national battles and the manor teams are for hunting out the bandits. This is not to say that they don’t get involved with local conflicts. Again, the first line should always be the ones attacked.

As a note for history, the elven army is strictly, for purity, all elves. The dragon army and the manor teams are a blended mixture of all races. Each race having it’s own skills that blend into a real invincible force.

This is why the young and some of the old are abandoning everything and desert the failed nation of Elvaden.
