This diary is my vow to various people and institutions that I adored in my life. For me my devotion was my love, my loyalty and my enthusiasm for specific people, institutions and activities. When I devoted myself to the people, I took a vow and I pledged my devotion—whether to uphold the law or to honour the word of God. It should be no surprise then that devotion and its related verb devote come from the act of taking a vow.
