Nowadays The Internet has become nothing but a big supermarket – clothes, cosmetics, insurance, but also lots of rubbish.’
‘Oh, yes – the signs of the zodiac. This is so primitive!’ Annie was going to express her indignation at the matter in a more explicit way but stopped herself in time. Instead she asked for some milk anyway.
‘Oh, the lover-girl!’ Jessie laughed again ‘Talking of this, who are you going to the ball with?’
Annie felt uneasy by the question and asked in her turn, ‘How about you?’
‘Well,’ started Jessie ‘I’ve got an invitation from Greg Warner and he is 100 per cent sure that I’m going with him. The poor guy! What he doesn’t know is that Brad Sullivan also invited me. Well, you’ve got these two alternatives – now guess who I’m going with?’
‘With Brad?’
‘Beep! Wrong!’
‘With Greg?’
‘Also wrong. They are both jerks. Greg doesn’t get away from the gym. He thinks his muscles are strong enough to turn any girl on but hey, I’m not just any girl. And Brad will surely annoy me the whole evening with his adventures last time he took his photo-shots.’
‘Then who are you going to be with?’ asked Annie. All of a sudden Jessie started acting weird. She made a sheepish face, too happy and at the same time a bit idiotic but her face beamed… with its own light, ‘With Chris O’Neal!’ She sighed,. However, Annie was at a loss, ‘Long, blond hair, 6 feet 4, the most wonderful green eyes in the college!’
continued Jessie and sighed again but as Annie still didn’t get it, she quickly clarified, ‘O-o-o-oh, come on! He plays with your friend.’
‘With Stu?’
‘Yes, with Stu! OK, how about you?’
Annie sighed in turn, ‘Well… Aaron asked me.’
‘That’s great, but why the long face?’
‘Jessie… I love Stu!’
‘Oh, my! I had my suspicions you might be falling for him!’ she said, ‘Is this serious?’
Annie nodded. Jessie asked again, ‘Since when?’
‘I don’t remember – seems to me my whole life.’
‘And is it like your knees are melting each time you see him?’ Jessie asked and Annie nodded. ‘Is it like you can turn the whole world upside down for him?’ Annie nodded again. ‘And like you are ready to do anything for him?’ Another nod. ‘HE IS NOT WORTH
IT!’ Jessie ended her tirade. ‘NO-O-O!’ Annie objected.
