Chapter 23

“No one can leave yet. I still have a stick and want to play more,” said Laura from Fionian Street; gathering much attention.

Laura; the kind courtesy of Pexels.com under their CC0 license Maureen was at one with her surroundings. Her eyes may have suggested otherwise to those who didn’t know her. But, she had merely thought that she had caught a glimpse of a fleeting and elusive fractal in the semi-nocturnal glow of both carousels.

Pacific Lane’s own resident Maggie and her mate Tanner shared a joke; private to those who didn’t know them well.

Maggie, the older of the two, smirked as she said; “I’ll be fine right after a little nap.”

Gunther was a chubby, mostly orange one from Lazy Lane. His languid, but focussed eyes gave out mixed messages to those who sought messages in others’ eyes. For Gunther’s part, most of the time, he was like; “Whatever. Lunchtime?”

Sheba and an indeterminate number of her kittens huddled together on a discarded laptop which didn’t realize that it was completely out of place in its being temporarily useful.

The pride of Plentiful Road; Spencer, had just about conked out. His secret was that it wasn’t so much of a reaction to physical exertion and fun. It was that his belly felt as funny as a ship navigating most inconvenient whopping waves; either the result of him having eaten 28 corn dogs with assorted side dishes or the unexplainable current onset of him having a disposition associated with the symptoms related to untreated kinetosis; that primarily being a repressed compulsion to bark up lunch.

Lee and Molly of Rollicking Road were still quite vigorous; having been refreshed by a swim in the adjacent Boggy Cleave River. The wetness remaining on their fur served as a further stimulant as it cooled in the oncoming night air.

The kittens instinctively knew how to keep warm. They jumped on each other.
