Chapter 12
Carlo and Lizzy were the beleaguered parents of the rambunctious quads most often referred to by others through their common Pawsborne last name. The less-scrutinizing rest found it difficult to differentiate one imp from another, and thought it rude to seek a hint through a tail-lifting, derriere inspection.
Like most parents, Carlo and Lizzy spent a lot of time sleeping, pretending to, or desperately trying to. In their specific case they spent some of their dream time wondering why the expected one had to become the unexpected four.
The puppies were little of stature; but made up for that through constant motion, most often fueled by their collective curiosity.

Carlo and Lizzy did what they could to have everyone believe that the quads’ tireless rambunction was a source of semi-constant parental exhaustion.

Carlo and Lizzy were always externally fatigued, and in one sense they were. But, they were also internally proud and vivacious; and in another sense they were that too. Their outward joint displays of lethargy didn’t fool anyone who previously had their own healthy kids.
Laying next to them as they rested were three books they were saving for whenever the pups got to the point where they took pint-sized breaks.

Billy and Jack considered new projects at their river retreat. It wasn’t a matter of finding just one; it was a matter of trying to assign degrees of need to many. They were indeed intrepid doers-of-good. In that pursuit they were also intrepidly overwhelmed.

Genevieve briskly engaged all those Pacific Laners, whether outside or in regarding her carnival idea. They were unanimously interested, but were a bit cautious. Most said something like;
“If the weather stays good for two weeks more .......... “
She sat under the picture of her mother. She had always taken good care of it.
