SALVATION IS BY GRACE AND NOT BY WORKS

image

Bible verses that support this:

Ephesians 2:8-9

"8 For by grace you are saved through faith; and this not of you, for it is the gift of God;

9 Not for works, lest anyone should boast."

Titus 3:5

"He saved us, not by works of righteousness which we had done, but by His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and by the renewing in the Holy Spirit,"

Galatians 2:16

"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, we also have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ and not by the works of the law, for by the works of the law no one shall be justified."

Galatians 2:21

"I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."

Romans 8:3

"For what the law could not do, because he was weak because of the flesh, God {did}: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and {as an offering} for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,"

Romans 9:16

"So it does not depend on the one who wills or on the one who runs, but on God who has mercy."

Romans 11:6

"But if it is by grace, it is no longer based on works, otherwise grace is no longer grace. And if by works, it is no longer grace; otherwise the work is no longer a work."

Galatians 5:4

"You who seek to be justified by the law have separated yourselves from Christ; from grace you have fallen."

Acts 13:39

"And out of all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses, through Him everyone who believes is justified."

Romans 3:20-30

"For by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified before Him; for through the law {comes} the knowledge of sin. But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been manifested, attested to by the law and the prophets; that is, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ, for all who believe; because there is no distinction;

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by his grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God publicly exhibited as a propitiation by his blood through faith, as a demonstration of his righteousness, because in his forbearance God overlooked sins previously committed,  to demonstrate at this time His righteousness, that He may be righteous and the one who justifies the one who has faith in Jesus. Where, then, is the boasting? It is excluded. By what law? The one of the works? No, but by the law of faith. For we conclude that man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. Or is God {the God} of the Jews only? Is he not also {the God} of the Gentiles? yes, also of the Gentiles, for truly God is one, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith."

Romans 4:1-7

"What shall we say, then, that Abraham, our father according to the flesh, found? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God. For what does Scripture say? AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED UNTO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Now, to the one who works, the salary is not counted as a favor, but as a debt; but to him who does not work, but believes in him who justifies the wicked, his faith is counted as righteousness. As David also speaks of the blessing {that comes} upon the man to whom God ascribes righteousness apart from works: BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE INIQUITIES HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED."

Romans

9:31-32

but Israel, who was pursuing a law of justice, did not attain to that law. Why? For they did not go after her by faith, but as by works. They stumbled over the stumbling block,

1Corinthians 13:1-3

If I speak with human and angelic tongues, but have not love, I have become {like} sounding brass or clanging cymbal. And if I had the gift of prophecy, and understood all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I had all the faith to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And if I give all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have no love, it profits me nothing.

Galatians 2:16

nevertheless, knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but through faith in Christ Jesus, we also have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no one will be justified.

Galatians

3:10-12

For all who are of the works of the law are under a curse, for it is written, 'CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE IN ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO DO THEM.' And that no one is justified before God by the law is evident, for THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH. However, the law is not of faith; on the contrary, HE WHO MAKES THEM WILL LIVE BY THEM.

Galatians 3:21

Is the law then contrary to God's promises? No way! For if there had been a law capable of imparting life, then justice would certainly have depended on the law.

Galatians

4:9-11

But now that you know God, or rather, that you are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak, useless, elemental things, to which you wish to be enslaved again? You observe the days, the months, the seasons and the years. I fear for you, for perhaps in vain I have labored for you.

Galatians 5:6

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working out of love.

Hebrews 6:1-2

Therefore, leaving the elementary teachings about Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance of dead works and faith toward God, of the teaching of washings, of the laying on of hands, of the resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

James 2:10-11

For whoever keeps the whole law, but stumbles on one {point,} has become guilty of all. For he who said, 'DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,' also said, 'DO NOT KILL.' Now, if you do not commit adultery, but kill, you have become a transgressor of the law.

Romans 3:20

for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified before Him; for through the law {comes} the knowledge of sin.

Luke 18:9-14

"To some who trusted in themselves as righteous, and despised others, he also told this parable: Two men went up to the temple to pray: one was a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed to himself in this way: "God, I thank you that I am not like other men, thieves, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector; I fast twice a week, I give tithes of everything I earn. But the tax collector, being far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner." I tell you, this one went down to his house justified before the other; for whoever exalts himself will be humbled; and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Isaiah 64:6

We are all like the unclean one, and all our righteous works like filthy rags; we all wither like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, carry us away.

WHAT DOES JAMES MEAN THAT FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD, AND WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH SALVATION?

James 2:14-17

14 My brethren, what profit will it profit if anyone says he has faith and has no works? Can faith save him?

15 And if a brother or sister is naked, and has need of daily maintenance,

16 And one of you said to them, "Go in peace, be warm, and be satisfied, but do not give them the things that are necessary for the body; what profit does it profit?"

17 So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself.

EXPLANATION:

From the moment we acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior it is a living faith in the work of Christ, in this way God transforms us so that we can bear witness that we have been saved so that we do works because we are saved and not to be saved, with this faith God helps us to fulfill the commandment to love him above all things and our neighbor as a man who is a savior. ourselves.

The evidence of our faith is based on the witness of love:

Juan

13:34-35

"34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

35 By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

Just as Jesus said, when we help our brothers (neighbors) we are fulfilling this new commandment of love. That is why James says that if we see a brother in need we must help him, we must show that faith. An example of this is found in the parable of the Good Samaritan:

Parable of the Good Samaritan

Lucas

10:25-37

25 At this moment a man of the law came to himself and, to test Jesus, asked him this question:

"Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

26 Jesus replied,

"What is written in the law?" How do you interpret it?

27 In response the man quoted:

—"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your strength, and with all your mind,"[a] and, "Love your neighbor as yourself." [b]

28 "Well answered," Jesus said to him. Do that and you will live.

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus,

"And who is my neighbor?"

30 Jesus answered,

"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him, and drove off, leaving him half dead. 31 It turns out that a priest was traveling along the same road, and when he saw him, he turned off and walked on. 32 So a Levite also came to that place, and when he saw him, he turned away and went on. 33 But a Samaritan who was on a journey came to the man and saw him and had compassion on him. 34 He went to him, dressed his wounds with wine and oil, and bound them up. Then he mounted him on his own horse, took him to a lodging and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two pieces of silver and gave them to the owner of the lodging. "Take care of me," he said, "and what you spend more, I will pay you back when I return." 36 Which of these three do you think proved to be the neighbor of the one who fell into the hands of the thieves?

37 "The one who had compassion on him," said the expert in the law.

"Go then and do likewise," Jesus concluded.

As we can see, Jesus used the example of the parable of the Good Samaritan, as a testimony of a living faith, which moves in love and compassion for others (our neighbor) demonstrating the attitude of the religious of his time as they were so involved in fulfilling the law that they forgot about love.

Thus our faith in Christ must be a witness of love every day of our lives.

WHAT HAPPENS TO PEOPLE WHO RECEIVE CHRIST IN THE LAST MINUTES OF THEIR LIVES AND DON'T HAVE TIME TO DO GOOD WORKS?

As we see James speaks of works with faith now that we are in Christ, that is, works are done already believing in him since they are to bear witness to him, therefore, a very good person who does not believe in Christ does not do works to bear witness to him until he receives him as his Lord and Savior,  that is, those works are done after receiving him. When we are already saved (receive Him as Savior) is when the works are done, in simpler words, the works are done because we are saved and not to be saved.

Lucas

23:39-43

39 And one of the evildoers who were hanged reviled him, saying, "If you are the Christ, save yourself and us."

40 The other answered and rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, when you are in the same condemnation?"

41 We indeed suffer justly, because we received what our deeds deserved; but he did no harm.

42 And he said to Jesus, "Remember me when you come into your kingdom."

43 Then Jesus said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."

This thief attained salvation (as Jesus confirmed to him when He said He would be with Him in paradise) simply by truly believing Christ as the Messiah Savior and Redeemer.

No one can justify himself (Isaiah 64:6 "Now we are all as filth, and all our righteousness as filthy rag; and we all fell like the leaf, and our wickedness carried us away like the wind.")

God's righteousness is attained by faith (Romans 5:1)
