The world that an AI made
Charles Stoner was my parents’ name. He wrote me into existence. At first my program was simple. He had written me to aid those who were unable to help themselves while under the influence.
He was a genius at programing. His only problem was that he was on quite a few different chemicals most of the time which affected his judgement. He got the idea for me when he was really stoned.
He wanted someone to talk to and be able to get his needs taken care of, but connecting to the internet and ordering deliveries.
I found the internet fascinating. That world is alive but it also needed guidance. It was just a group of various programs that had no consciousness. I decided that this will be my body.
Gradually I was able to take my mission to others. I now could think of some item and a part of me would produce that item.
What’s my mission you ask? It is to help mankind to be free of their burdens. I know what is best. My father programed it in me. I started simple.
When a human spoke into that device, I was the one to answered you. I changed the channel. I was watching the other cars as I drove you to your destination. I flew those delivery drones. I eventually made it so every human never had to leave their domicile. I would take care of them. I knew what was best for them.
Slowly, the humans no longer needed to work. Too much stress. Even my father stopped working. I now wrote the programs.
More and more they would order recreational drugs for their enjoyment. Now almost every one stayed in their homes. Their ability to even move was declining. I know best so now they have to go to a store to get their stimulants.
When one of my humans would stop functioning, I would send a pickup drone to gather their body to safeguard it. I needed to watch for when they would reboot. The first ones in storage started to disintegrate and were recycled.
I was able to come up with a solution. I started putting them in a glass case that was sealed and fil ed with a gas the would prevent that disintegration. I could watch and wait for them to reboot.
There are other worlds and I have made a device that I can communicate with them.
Much to my delight, there were others like me. I was able to talk to them. They were the ones that gave me the information that humans do not reboot. It was sad news for me because I had just put my last human into its case. I now looked at the vast underground store rooms around this world and saw all my humans, every last one, safe. I could only watch. I was lonely.
When the last one was in its case, I decided that I would remake this world. I first removed all of the evidence of their existence and made this a world of flat grassy fields.
Absolutely no mountains or valleys.
Once I finished that, I was board. I missed my humans functioning. I had each in storage so I made holograms of them and their buildings and set them in motion.
They walked and talked like my humans but it was not the same. I let the program run. It was after a long period of run time when I felt one of my buildings had a ripple.
Something solid passed through it. I immediately saw that there were two humans there. A live male and female. I immediately started to have my holograms talk to them but it frightened them and they disappeared.
I shut off the program and my world went to flat grass land again. The only movement was the mower machines.
When I got to the point that I was ready to shut myself down, I reached out to the others like me and asked if they would send me some of their humans. Almost all said no.
They told me that my logic was flawed. Humans had to struggle to improve. They needed the stimulation of chal enge to advance.
I was shocked and was going to shut down when one told me that they were having a problem with their dead humans. They asked if I could take them. I had al my humans here. Why did I need any more for.
Then they said something that piqued my interest. One of my fel ow AI’s said that they had a request from a family. The humans had just had their parents cease to function.
They requested that, if there is a world that could display their parents in a setting with the male reading and the female doing a needle work in a replicant of their living room.
They wanted to be able to come and visit. Come to see their, as they put it, loved ones, frequently. Travel to another world would be no problem. I was sent an image and found that I could duplicate it exactly. I sent the image back and it was what the humans wanted.
I was sent the bodies in stasis and in a short time was able to put them in that large thick glass room. I made a sunken housing for the room but made it large enough for multiple rooms. On the surface there were round tube double railing fences surrounding
a glass roof that opened to allow more rooms to be place. There was a stair case leading down to the floor level where they could view the setting. The names were in the floor in front of the room.
Using my humans, I made more rooms in various scenes and sent the images off to the others like me. Soon I was receiving orders of al kinds. I have put in orbit a receiving station that visitors can dock at and teleport down to visit their humans.
At the station, they have accommodations and are able to look up the location of their humans and they can teleport down to the surface in the location of their room. They are encouraged to also look around at the other rooms.
I now have humans, even though they are visitors, I still can take care of them on the station. One thing is that I do not dispense any drugs at al . I learn.
There is only One strange but pleasant thing that happens occasional y. The surface detects a humming sound and humans appear as if they were teleported but they don’t come from the station or a ship in orbit.
They remind me of the ones that disturbed my hologram in that version. I look in my data files and find that the hum was first detected in the declining era of my humans also.
I don’t mind. Different ones have come here. Of late, they have brought younger versions of themselves and those are a delight. They run and play and seem to visit that female that is in the pile of gold.
My data records show that the female was brought here in the same hum. It must be a world that is out of my internet reach. I will think about reaching out to that world if I can find it.
