Susie: “They always do. I found a marginal annotation in the Codex written in lemon juice and regret. It reads: ‘Laughter is the last refusal.’ I believe it was penned by a rogue mime during the Great Chuckle Purge.”
Finn: “A mime with a manifesto. Dangerous. The Ministry feared those most who could laugh without sound. They called it ‘subsonic dissent.’"
Susie: “And yet here we are, aristocrats of ambiguity, stewards of the sacred snort. Do you think we've become archivists or instigators?”
Finn: “Both. We curate the ruins of regulated joy and plant seeds of spontaneous wheeze. The Codex is not a book. It's a breathing organism. Every time someone giggles in defiance, it grows a new appendix.”
Susie: “Then let us add one. I propose a new entry; The Ritual Snicker. Occurs when one witnesses bureaucratic solemnity and responds with a barely audible scoff. Effect: destabilizes hierarchy, induces momentary clarity.”
Finn: “Approved. And I'll add The Aristocratic Cackle; a laugh so refined it's mistaken for a cough. Used during diplomatic dinners and ironic coronations.”
