One particularly dramatic toaster, Sir Crispington of Slot 2, once claimed to know the location of the legendary "Third Setting", a mythical dial position said to produce perfect toast. He refused to share it, citing "the moral burden of enlightenment."
The Cold War with Refrigeration
Fridges, with their cavernous interiors and smug temperature control, look down on the toaster caste. They leak real secrets; expiration dates, hidden snacks, emotional breakdowns of leftover lasagna. Toasters respond with performative secrecy, creating elaborate rituals around the mundane.
A toaster might whisper, "I know what the freezer saw last night," then refuse to elaborate. The fridge rolls its compressor in disdain. The cycle continues.
