Chapter 7
Milly turned the key in the cell. Roman was free. Now she couldn’t back
down. Things would be set in motion soon. The two counsellors were first on her list. After they would be taken care of, she would see what she would do next. But first she wanted this job done perfectly, no flaws were allowed.
- When the job is done, come see me for your reward and for your next assignment. You know where to find me. And make it look like an accident. Nobody must suspect anything.
- Ok, got it, said Roman taking a deep breath of the stale air in the dungeons for the last time he hoped. Because he was free again now and would be smelling the fresh night air of the outside in a matter of moments. Milly turned her back on him thinking for a brief moment that she was totally exposed and she didn’t have anything to protect herself with. But it would be in vain anyway if Roman would decide to double-cross her. She was no match for him. She turned her head to see what he was doing but he was already gone. He had vanished like a ghost leaving Milly to wonder

if he would keep his side of the bargain or would just flee town and enjoy his freedom. Only time would tell.
Xander was at the local brothel. He was in the mood for some fun. It was
Saturday night and as every Saturday night he was at the Purple Rose, the local brothel. He entered with a smug look on his face, touching his purse from time to time to make sure it weighed enough and also to show the so called ladies that he was in for some fun as usual and that he could afford the best- looking lady the brothel had available then. He sat at a table first to get some drinks and check out the ladies until he would decide which one he would be spending the night with.
After a few beers he still couldn’t make up his mind. Then a slender redheaded
girl took a seat next to him. She had ruby red lips and a short skirt which showed enough to make him want her. Yes, Xander thought, she is the one for tonight so he approached her confident and took a seat next to her.
- Hi, he started, how about we go upstairs? He was already tipsy and could hardly walk. But he wanted the red-headed slut in front of him. She was new. He hadn't seen her at the brothel before. So he had to have her. Even if he would drag her upstairs. But she agreed with a seductive smile on her lips and they both went in one of the “working” rooms upstairs.- Easy big boy, the red-headed said in almost a whisper, let's get you to bed first. And close the door, you don't want anyone to barge in while we are having fun, do you?
- Oh, sexy and smart, Xander said drooling at her. Then he began to unzip his trousers but he couldn’t finish as he felt the cold blade of a small dagger stabbing him right in his heart with a swift and precise move. He didn’t even have time to yell. He fell on the bed in a puddle of blood. The redheaded took his money purse and left in a hurry. Once out in the street she hurried down some dark alleys and then she took off her wig throwing it in a dumpster. Wiped the lipstick and the make up from her face to reveal who she really was: Roman, the assassin. He thought with content: one down, one more to go.
As for Mario, that target would be a bit more difficult. Mario didn’t go
to brothels or pubs. He was a more quiet person. But he loved to ride on Sundays. Every Sunday he would go to his estate in the country and ride his favorite horse, a charming white pure breed stallion, for a few hours and then return it to the stables and leave for king's court on Monday morning.

Roman knew his habits and decided to kill him while riding his horse and make it look like an accident. So on Friday night he sneaked in the stables and tampered with his horse's bridles and saddles. He cut them making them resist just a bit, for an hour or so and then they would give way. It would look like an accident but he would follow him to make sure the job was done. When he finished and was satisfied with his work, Roman fell asleep in the hay in the back of the stables.
With the first rays of light Roman woke up and waited there to make sure Mario would come as usual. He didn’t wait long. Mario entered the stables and headed for his white stallion. He started grooming him and then he saddled and went in a poof. Roman got out of the stables and untied his horse which he had left a few paces outside tied to a big oak. Then he followed Mario from a distance to make sure of the kill. Two hours later he saw Mario fall from the horse while galloping. He hit his head on the rocks just as planned. Roman got to him a few minutes later to make sure he was dead. He took his pulse but he was still alive. So he took his head and hit it hard against the rocks. Now Mario was dead. The job was done. He took his purse with his initials on it and left the scene in a hurry. Later that evening he stealthily entered Milly's private chamber and put the two purses, Xander’s and Mario’s, on Milly's desk. She wasn't in her room yet and Roman decided to wait for her behind the curtains. Milly entered the room with a towel on her head as she had had a bath. She then saw the two purses on her table and took them to examine them closely. She recognized the initials and she couldn’t believe it. Was it true? Were Xander and Mario really dead or was this a joke?- Roman, Milly said a bit nervous, are you in here?- Yes, he said coming out from behind the curtains. The job is done, just as you asked.
- Good, she said in a cool voice, here is your reward. And she handed him a thick diamond ring and a purse of money. He took both and weighed the purse. He smiled as he clearly liked the weight of the purse. As for the ring, he put it away in one of his pockets.
- Nice doing business with you, Miss Milly. Anything else you need my help with?
- Not for the moment, but soon. Stay close so I can reach you when I need you.
- There is an old cabin outside the city walls. You can find me there most of

the time, Roman said and then he left in the shadows.
