32 AN ULTRA VIOLENT FAIRY TALE

“You’re an insolent fool. If you weren’t Eric’s brother I’d have left you ignorant, but mind me when I say you are to tell him. I do not wish to be the bearer of bad news, Luke but I will put you over my knee and spank the shit out of you in front of all your little girl friends if you make me tell Eric. Are we clear?”

Detroit left without waiting for his answer. The room was thick with humidity, the silence was broken by the watery sniff of Maureen who was as pale as a ghost.

“Luke,” she said.

He stood still taking long, harsh sounding deep breaths. He rubbed at his chest while his mind raced with questions. He’d have to tell Eric but not right away. But how long could he wait to tell?

“Luke,”

How long before she got here? Was she coming alone?

“Luke,” said Maureen in a whiny voice.

“Hold on,” he said with a hiss.

“Luke,” she said again in that nasal tone.

“God damn it, shut up and let me think.” he said through his teeth.

“I’m scared.” she said in a barking sob.

Luke watched her with a furrowed brow. He felt both bewildered and a little angry, with her but with himself as well. He tried to keep the annoyance out of his voice.

“Maureen what the fuck are you scared about? You didn’t fuck her I did, if she gets me she wont give a shit about you or anyone else.”

She was either dense or just fearful for him. He felt his heart ache seeing how scared she was for him, he walked over to her and gave her a kiss.
