28 AN ULTRA VIOLENT FAIRY TALE
People who knew him greeted him, especially the ladies, those who didn’t smiled at him anyway. His manner and dress were all cool, he had been in all the fastest and coolest places Neon City had and knew the people who ran them as well. He snapped his finger to a tune that was bopping around his head, walking on a street populated with people and sung a few lyrics as he strutted himself handsomely.
‘she told my baby we’d dance til three, then she looked at me, then showed a photo my baby cried his eyes were like mine’
He passed a series of houses that had been dug out of the mountainside, with porch steps carved right out of the mountain itself. All of their windows showing light and life happening behind them, Neon City was a place that was always awake even though night was eternal. He crossed a street that had a couple of auto carriages preparing to drag race, Detroit tipped his hat to the racers that allowed him to cross.
With a parched set of lips he went to his favorite pub, The Rowsdower, which had music, drugs, and sex. As he came to the corner where it sat, the door opened suddenly and a ruckus of swears and shouting could be heard. That was unusual as The Rowsdower didn’t allow too much rough housing in its establishment. Before he could walk any further a person came out as if shoved, and almost fell down the short set of steps.
“Yeah, fuck you!” she said catching herself from tripping over her own legs.
“You lyin skank, stay outta here!” said an angry voice from in the pub before the door closed again to thunderous applause.
“Fuck you, I do know Glitterbelle she’s outta jail, I’ll tell her what you said and she’ll kick all your asses!” she said to the closed door.
Detroit knew Bernadette, she was a dirty woman with low tastes and even lower morals. Normally under such circumstances he would do an about face and avoid this filthy woman at all costs, but when he heard her say Glitterbelle being out of jail he stopped. Then he realized Bernadette had been in jail recently too, so he walked over to speak with her.
“Hey Mr Dickie,” she said pulling her shirt a little to show her shoulder. “you wanna have a date?”
“No thank you, love.” he said holding in his gag reflex. “correct me if I am wrong, my dear but did I hear you say something about Glitterbelle?”
