Maybe she did have a crush on him.
Or maybe she was just being friendly.
Or maybe; just maybe, he wasn’t as unreadable to her as he feared.
As class ended, Zoe gathered her things and nudged him lightly. “Hey, Morey? If you’re not busy later, maybe we could study together. For the quiz next week.”
His tail flicked once, betraying him. “Yeah. I’d like that.”
She grinned, bright and certain. “Great. It’s a date.”
She walked out before he could process the last word.
Morey stood there, notebook still open to its blank page, heart thudding in a rhythm that felt suspiciously like hope.
He wasn’t sure what Zoe meant.
But he knew he wanted to find out.
Later, while Morey began to explain his understanding of homologous structures, Zoe interrupted to say; “What’s so wrong with sameness if it’s always right and good?”
