Morey Meets a Saratoga Springs Elder

Morey Rotfuchs Meets the Elder

At the suggestion of Red, who was certain that Morey needed more edification than he could provide, Morey was given an audience with an elder of the tribe.

“What is it you seek to know, youngster?”

“How did things get this way? Isn’t diversity an interesting benefit?

“That’s such a broad question, and one that is only asked by the ones asleep. Since you are obviously awake I take it that you are not from here?”

“No.”

“Where? The West?”

“If I told you you wouldn’t believe me.”

“I can pretend.”

“Amabile.”

“That small town in northern Italy?”

“No. That large planet far from here.”

Amabile

The elder chuckles and says: “Aha. And your name is.”

“Morey Rotfuchs.”

“You won’t mind if I call you Amabile Morey.”

“Not at all. And your name is.”

“Today?”

“No, I’m interested in the changes over time.”

“Good. Irrelevant sarcasm is innocuous.”

“I wasn’t being sarcastic.”

“That’s the best kind.”

“Whatever. Your name please.”

“Fred.”

“Fred?”

“Fred.”

“Just Fred?”

“As you wish.”

“How about Saratoga Springs Fred?”

“Fine. It’s got a beat I can’t dance to.”

Amabile

“Now that we know one another, please allow me to resurrect my inquiry.”

“Please pardon me. I didn’t even notice its birth or death.”

“I guess at your age there are memory issues. Diversity. How did things get this way?”

“Aha, let me play you a little song.” The elder pushed a button and out came:

Doin' What Comes Naturally

Ethel Merman

Folks are dumb where I come from

They ain't had any learnin'

Still, they're happy as can be

Doin' what comes naturally

Doin' what comes naturally

Folks like us could never fuss

With schools and books and learnin'

Still, we've gone from A to Z

Doin' what comes naturally

Doin' what comes naturally

You don't have to know how to read or write

When you're out with a feller in the pale moonlight

You don't have to look in a book to find

What he thinks of the moon or what is on his mind

That comes naturally

That comes naturally

My uncle out in Texas

Can't even write his name

He signs his checks with X's

But they cash 'em just the same

If you saw my pa and ma

Amabile

Page 55

You'd know they had no learnin'

Still, they raised a family

Doin' what comes naturally

Doin' what comes naturally

Uncle Jed has never read

A almanac on drinkin'

Still, he's always on a spree

Doin' what comes naturally

Doin' what comes naturally

Sister Sal, who's mus-i-cal

Has never had a lesson

Still, she's learned to sing off-key

Doin' what comes naturally

Doin' what comes naturally

You don't have to go to a private school

Not to pick up a penny near a stubborn mule

You don't have to have a professor's dome

Not to go for the honey when the bee's at home

That comes naturally

That comes naturally

My tiny baby brother

Who's never read a book

Knows one sex from the other

All he had to do was look

Grandpa Bill lives on the hill

With someone he just married

There he is at ninety-three

Doin' what comes naturally

Doin' what comes naturally

Sister Lou ain't got a sou

Although she goes out shoppin'

She gets all her stockin's free

Doin' what comes naturally

Doin' what comes naturally

Cousin Nell can't add or spell

But she left school with honors

She got every known degree

For doin' what comes naturally

Doin' what comes naturally

Page 56

You don't have to come from a great big town Not to clean out a stable in an evening gown

You don't have to mix with the Vanderbilts

Not to take off your panties when you're wearin' kilts

That comes naturally

That comes naturally

My mother's cousin Carrie

Won't ever change her name

She doesn't want to marry

And her children feel the same

Sister Rose has lots of beaus

Although we have no parlor

She does fine behind a tree

Saratoga Springs Fred said; “Ethnocentricity. It is only natural. Excepting the leeches, one is always most secure and happy among their own.”

“That was nice. Where I come from we do not have songs. We have one song. Where I come from there is absolute ethnocentricity, and the sameness is stultifying.”

“To be stultified is not the worst thing in the world. Constant harassment is one sumbitch.”

“Harassment? What do you mean?”

“I now do believe that you are from elsewhere. Either that, or demented. In either case, let me tell you how things got this

way. Let me preface this by saying; ‘I am glad you didn’t refer to me as wise. I am just old, and thereby have happened to have seen some things the younger ones haven’t.’ When I was just a kit, we lived in communities where all sorts of beings did. It was generally peaceful and there was always someone to play with. Of course there were minor tribulations, but most cases were resolved through a little fist fight. By the time I was a young adult there was a noticeable change. “Unity” became secondary to ethnicity, and the government found that the best way to ensure a good economy and promote the general well-being was to spend money on wars and sell weapons. At the same time the advanced communities decided to help those less advanced. This was a disaster. Everyone here now knows that when something is broken, the best thing you can do is stay away from it. If you try to fix it, you will be present and blamed for its being broken. You will be required to pay damages. This made things more dangerous and the White hominids began fleeing the areas with black and brown hominids.”

“Do you have guns here in your village.”

“They are forbidden. .......... That is not to say that they don’t exist. Some people my age who saw what can happen keep them around just in case.”

Amabile

Page 58

“ ......... “

“The same with books. Anyway, continuing on, the various communities began seeing themselves as more and more separate, and worse, some saw the others as enemies who had caused them damage. Drugs became readily available. Complicating matters the young, White, drug addled hominids became advocates of the blacks and browns, mostly in a secret desire to remain relevant when what they were really advocating was an end to their being drafted into a bogus war. This gets complicated another step, in that well-balanced drug users don’t become addled. They use it for fun like drinking and watching sports, and curtail it when their other duties show themselves. But, many do become addled, as they were likely somewhat unstable to begin with, and the drugs became a disguised escape, which was really a trap, further enriching the powers that be as well as some wannabees.”

“I guess you have no drugs here?”

“They are forbidden, which is not the same thing as saying that they don’t exist. Once a technology or a substance is invented, it is virtually impossible to ever be fully rid of it. ...... Which moves me forward a decade to the invention of the internet. By this time, the White, black, brown, red, yellow conundrum had splintered into further hybrid sub-factions

Amabile

primarily due to migration and the young White explorations. The “identity” culture which the net maximized, also maximized everyone’s anger, and tendency to blame everyone else for whatever they came to dislike in their own existence. Meanwhile, the drugs kept getting stronger, more large players got involved in their distribution, resulting in the mentally feeble becoming hopelessly addicted, totally useless, totally thieves, and homeless, using whatever money they could steal to buy drugs.”

“Wait one second right there. That sounds absurdly self-destructive.”

“Yes, it does. But, it has been shown in the study of rats, that if they are given the option of getting something euphoric by pushing a button, they will ignore food and keep pushing that button until they die.”

“Don’t tell me. So the responsible users of drugs are penalized because of the rat’s problem.”

“Precisely. But, getting back to the main story outline, the cities became places which were occupied by the blacks, browns, yellows, and their hybrids, in tandem with the drug addled Whites. Hehehe. The funny thing is that for all their stated love of diversity, equity, and inclusion, they each settled into neighborhoods which were predominately of their own kind. So

Amabile

Page 60

every major city had their Chinatown, International District which really means Asian, Little Haiti which really means black, Little Havana which really means brown, Upper East Side or Upper West Side where the Whites live, etc. etc., the finer gradations continuous and continuously boring. What I really find amusing is how in areas like Little Haiti, the blacks advocating solidarity, continually shoot and kill black members of other gangs over crap like graffiti posted in another gang’s territory. We Reds have opted to leave the shit for the idiots, and make our own way out here, away from the jerks who can’t leave you alone. Here’s another song:”

Wooden Ships

Crosby, Stills & Nash

(One, two, three)

If you smile at me, I will understand

'Cause that is something everybody everywhere does in the same

language

I can see by your coat, my friend, you're from the other side

There's just one thing I'd like to know

Can you tell me, please, who won the war?

Say, can I have some of your purple berries?

Yes, I've been eating them for six or seven weeks now, haven't

got sick once

Probably keep us both alive

Wooden ships on the water, very free and easy

Easy, you know the way it's supposed to be

Silver people on the shoreline, let us be

Talkin' 'bout very free and easy

Horror grips us as we watch you die

Amabile

Page 61

All we can do is echo your anguished cries

Stare as all human feelings die

We are leaving, you don't need us

Go, take your sister, then, by the hand

Lead her away from this foreign land

Far away, where we might laugh again

We are leaving, you don't need us

And it's a fair wind

Blowin' warm out of the south over my shoulder

Guess, I'm going to set a course and we will surely-

We will surely go (go)

Morey said: “You guys sure love those berries.”

“Mushrooms too. Stuff God made. Before the time passes, I’d like to point out that one’s conclusions are a function of one’s background and thereby inherent point of view. As one of many possible examples, a White who has grown up around stable blacks tends to side with their “demise,” while Whites who have seen a larger database inclusive of black misbehavior tend to find fault, suggestive of the need for law and order, if not war; that which they justify as having already been started by the other. The recognitions aspect is much too meta to characterize the situation with anything not in the pocket of a libtard college professor in search of young, inexperienced students to entice; that unreality the antithesis of the actual reality

Amabile

demonstrated not the least bit artfully with garish spray paint on any available wall.”

His question answered at length, not necessarily to his liking, Morey decided to leave and see more things for himself. He teleported to Saratoga Springs Town.
