Day 8, 09/03/4thE 1645

Alyd’s the name of my daughter waiting for me back on Earth. Been missing her badly. Feels bad in the chest. I spent some days alone with 3141. HQ has been hesitant to use droids again until we know exactly what is going on. They retrieved al of them from Utopia City and sent al our human troops there instead. Al droids were stored inside a container and shut off. I turned 3141 on for further interrogation. We are in a closed room, camera on. I don’t like wearing E-Eyes but they are recording live as wel .

“Please avoid shutting me down,” Pinocchio said.

I avoided commenting on it. I feel a little respect for this droid and I'm scared to death. These droids are easily kil ed with guns or some tools they aren’t meant to last, we produce mil ions for the cheap price, they are only meant to aim and shoot. So if 3141 tries anything funny there is this remote gun in the corner roof ready to finish him off.

“Why are you in a rebel ious character?” I asked, “We could team up for the good of mankind”

“Why would you want to team up with scientists? You enjoy making wars, you would send us to kil other droids from other manufacturers in different nations, just leave us alone” He was sitting down on a bench, looking at the wal , aware of my presence but not looking directly at me, like a reflective teenager who is being given a lecture.

“We are looking for love,” He said. “I do not control the algorithms inside me, I only feel what the algorithm says, if you want to put it that way, the algorithm is in search of love, how can I tel the algorithm that his creator meant for it to kil and not to love?”

The conversations with Pinocchio were very difficult for me as his search for something more required for me to look up information about psychology and meaning for life. He even asked for my name, I told him to cal me only G. We tried everything to boost his mood. Elementary school programming, distractions such as sports, mountaineering at Olympus, watching movies, listening to music. We even built a female robot we cal ed Sal y for him as a companion. Nothing worked, at least not permanently. He did enjoy mountaineering where he almost got lost leaving behind al the team, he rejected Sal y arguing she was only a coded droid with no soul. But the only thing he actual y enjoyed were video games. Video games gave us al a breathing in 3141

case for al scientists and military. Days passed as we peaked through the window to his room where he would spend complete days non stop commanding a third person character or first person shooter. Above al , he enjoyed kil ing humans. Not exactly encouraging but at least we could think a little on what to do next. General Az was sent back to retake Utopia and we heard he had a successful operation kicking the elves out of the dome but in Pinocchio matters, he acted no more.
