I Was Heartbroken Again
On that same day, Thursday evening, I decided to visit Fleurlanda without her knowledge, even though I felt sad about losing my Goggle. It's unfortunate, but it's true; if I had known I would be home, I would have acted differently!
I dressed nicely, hoping my outfit would impress her.
However, things didn't go as planned.
After my shower, wrapped in a towel, I searched for the best shirt and pants to wear.
I thought to myself, “What do I have here? I need to find the best clothes right now.”
A few minutes later, I found an outfit that I liked and put on.
Once I was dressed, eager to spend less time before my guest sees me, I thought, “I really hope my attire impresses her tonight.” Just then, my parents, along with my little sister, who was in the living room eating and watching TV, noticed me preparing to leave.
“Hun? Where are you going?” My mother asked me.
“I'm going to meet someone,” I replied.
“He has a girlfriend now, yes?” My father chimed in, laughing.
“Really?” My mother asked, intrigued.
“Is that true? What's her name?” She asked me.
I felt a bit shy and said, “Well, I met someone I really like, and I hope she becomes my girlfriend one day.”
My father turned to my mother and said, “You heard him, right? I told you he has a girlfriend now.”
My sister chimed in, teasing, “Kenley has a girlfriend! Kenley has a girlfriend!”
At that moment, I glanced at my watch and realized time was slipping away.
I said, “See you later, guys!”
“Alright, Hun! But be careful out there!” My mother cautioned me.
I hurried outside to grab the motorcycle parked nearby.
At the time, I felt a mix of shock and sadness, not knowing things might get even sadder in the future.
What happened next?
When I arrived at Fleurlanda's house, I spotted her sitting in front of her door, conversing with a young white guy next to her.
“What? She lied to me!” I exclaimed from my spot on the motorcycle, watching them, but they did not see me.
I don't need to explain how heartbroken I felt, even though I had no evidence that this young man was her boyfriend.
You see, as a man, such emotions were always anticipated.
After a few minutes of observing her conversing with the young man, I returned home.
On my way back, the rain began to pour heavily.
When I arrived home quickly, my parents greeted me with, “Oh, you're back already!”
I replied, “Yes, I am back!”
“What's going on?”
“Are you okay?” My father inquired.
“Yes, I am fine,” I responded.
“Thank you for asking.”
I then went up to my room to rest.
“I don't know what happened, but I feel like he's not really okay,” my mother said to my father.
“Don't worry, he's fine!” My father reassured her.
Court Battle Over The Goggle
One lesson I took from my parents is to never passively observe while their hard work or anything precious to you is taken away without taking any actions or speaking up.
Remaining silent can often be interpreted as cowardice.
Of course!
I felt disheartened when the Goggle was taken from me, but the museum Boss likely anticipated that I would take steps to reclaim it.
To retrieve the Goggle, I knew I had to pursue the matter legally.
The following week, which was the third week, I dedicated at least two days to court proceedings against the museum Boss.
The first day was Monday morning.
I was on my own, as my family was completely unaware of the situation—I kept it all under wraps.
I arrived at the courthouse early Monday morning, around 10 AM, and was seated at the same table as the Boss, facing the Judge, with other museum Staff there as well.
“Mr. Kenley! What is your complaint against Mr. Jack?” The Judge inquired.
“Your Honor, I believe Mr. Jack has taken something of great value from me!” I responded. “What is it, Sir?” The Judge pressed further.
“Regrettably, Mr. Jack took a Goggle that was left to me by my late uncle!” I explained to the Judge.
“Mr. Jack, is that true?” The Judge asked Mr. Jack.
“Your Honor, that is completely incorrect! The Goggle he refers to is the property of my museum,” he countered.
“Your Honor!” I interjected her.
“Silence! Keep your voice down!” The Judge admonished.
“Mr. Jack!”
“How did the museum come to possess the Goggle in the first place?”
“Can we discuss on how this all began?” The Judge queried Mr. Jack once more.
“Well, the Goggle was invented and created by Dr. Nortreus, a Scientist who sadly not here anymore!” He explained.
“After his passing, his wife's brother approached me to sell the Goggle,” he told the Judge.
“And what do you have to say about that, Mr. Kenley?”
“Any disagreement?” The Judge questioned me.
“Your Honor, there is no question that Mr. Jack acquired the Goggle unlawfully!” I replied.
“What?”
“I disagree!” Mr. Jack exclaimed.
“Silence!” The Judge commanded us as Mr. Jack, and I started to bicker.
“The Goggle belongs to me!” I asserted.
“No, it belongs to me!” Mr. Jack countered.
Indeed, we were in a heated argument, prompting the Judge to call for quiet again.
We complied.
Shortly thereafter, the Judge requested to examine the Goggle.
“The Goggle! Where is it?”
“Can I see what you two are squabbling over—even if it seems like you're about to harm each other?” The Judge instructed, eager to see the Goggle.
Without delay, Mr. Jack signaled one of his Staff to bring forth the Goggle, which was encased in a small display box.
The Staff approached and presented the Goggle to the Judge.
“Your Honor, here is the Goggle!” the Staff announced.
“Thanks!” The Judge responded, accepting the specialized Goggle, and inspecting it.
“Can either of you explain what distinguishes this Goggle from the others out there?” The Judge questioned us.
“Your Honor, I purchased it because Dr. Nortreus was a renowned Inventor and Scientist in our town.”
“There’s no distinction between it and the others,” Mr. Jack, oblivious, explained.
“Your Honor, he is mistaken—he is completely mistaken!” I replied. “He is so wrong; I doubt he knows anything about that Goggle!” I informed the Judge.
“Silence! Cease your arguing!” The Judge shouted.
Yet something unexpected and amusing occurred.
What happened?
When the Judge donned the Goggle, she viewed us and the room in 3D mode.
Unexpectedly, she pressed a button she shouldn’t have, and saw our heads enlarge.
And our eyes resemble those of Aliens in dark mode, prompting her to hastily remove the Goggle. As the clock approached 12 PM, the Judge decided to conclude the first session and instructed that a second session be arranged for Wednesday at 10 AM.
This upcoming session would be the final opportunity for the Judge to determine the outcome of the case.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, this session is adjourned; we will reconvene on Wednesday at 10 AM for a conclusive decision!” The Judge announced.
“But?”
“What about the case conclusion? Did I win?”
“I was hoping for an answer today,” Mr. Jack responded to the Judge.
“Thank you very much.”
“Our next and last session is set for Wednesday at 10 AM,” the Judge reiterated, striking his gavel before rising to leave.
Subsequently, everyone made their way outside to head home.
Upon exiting the courthouse, Mr. Jack inquired if I needed a ride. “Kenley! Do you need a ride?” He asked.
“No, thank you,” I replied.
“Come on! Just because we face each other in court doesn't mean we are adversaries,” he said with a laugh.
“I already know that.” I replied. “Thanks! I already have my own transportation arranged already.”
“Thank you.” I responded.
“Alright.” He concluded.
I feel incredibly fortunate that I declined his offer for a ride; I’m grateful I heeded my father's counsel.
What was that advice?
My father once advised my little sister and me to never place our trust in anyone we suspect might be against us or someone dear to us, to prevent future regret.
