CENTER . . . With Yellow, ch 6. Join with sI st to form ring. 12 sc in ring. Join and break off. Sew Center to flower.

STEM (Make 10) . . . Using Green double make a chain 1½ inches long.

Starch flowers lightly and press. Cut a piece of velvet ribbon 15½

inches long. Make a ½ inch hem on each end. Sew flowers evenly spaced to ribbon. Sew Stems between flowers. Sew a rhinestone to Center of each Flower. Sew snap fastener in place on each end.

BRACELET . . . Make 5 Flowers and 4 Stems as before. Sew to remaining piece of ribbon in same manner.

EARRING (Make 2) . . . Make 2 Flowers as before. Paste to Earring back.

Bridal Garter

MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, Size 5: 2

balls of No. 1 White and 1 ball of No. 48 Hunter's Green, or J. & P.

Coats "Knit-Cro-Sheen": 1 ball each of No. 1 White and No. 48

Hunter's Green, and J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 30:

SMALL BALL: J. & P. COATS—1 ball of No. 9 Yellow, or CLARK'S

O.N.T.—1 ball of No. 9 Yellow, or J. & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 30: 1 ball of No. 9 Yellow, or Clark's 33

Big Ball Three Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 30: 1 ball of No. 9

Yellow. Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 7 and 10. A bridal garter.

GLADIOLA (Make 3) . . . Starting at center with White, ch 10. Join with sI st to form a ring.

FIRST PETAL . . . 1st rnd: Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, half dc in next ch, dc in next 4 ch, half dc in next 2 ch, sc in ring.

Make 5 more Petals in same manner. Break off.

2nd rnd: Work around Petal as follows: * Holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make a dc in next 3 sts, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (2 dc decreased), dc in next 2 sts, half dc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, at tip make sc, ch 3 and sc; sc in next 2

sts, half dc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, dec 2 dc, sc in the sc between Petals.

Repeat from * around remaining petals. Join and break off.

BUD (Make 5) . . . 1st row; With White, ch 4, in 4th ch from hook make 2 dc and 1 tr. Ch 3, turn.

2nd row: Skip first tr, dec 1 dc, ch 3, sI st in top of decreased dc, ch 3, sI st in top of starting chain. Break off.

STEM AND CALYX (Make 5) . . . With Green make a chain 1½

inches long, tr in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sI st in tr, ch 4, sI st in same place as tr, ch 4, tr in same place as sI st, ch 3, sI st in tr, ch 4, sI st in same place as tr, sI st in each ch across. Break off. Sew Bud to Calyx.

STAMEN (Make 3) . . . With Yellow, * ch 9, ** (thread over, insert hook in 3rd ch from hook) 3 times; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (dc cluster made), ch 4. Repeat from ** once more, ending with ch 6, sI st in first ch of ch-9. Repeat from * 3 more times.

Break off.

Sew Flowers, Buds and Stems to garter.

Water Lily Nut Cup

MATERIALS: DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 20. 1-skein each No. 26 Lt. Blue and No. 10 Yellow. Steel crochet hook No. 12.

BASE—With Blue, ch 8, join with sI st to form ring. ROW 1—Ch 3, 17

dc in ring, join to top of ch-3.

ROW 2--Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc around, join.

ROW 3—Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeat around, join.

ROW 4—(Sc in 5 sts, 2 sc in next st) 10 times (63 sc). Join. Fasten off.

LARGE PETAL—With Blue, ch 26, sc in 2d st from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, tr in next 15 ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, 3

sc in end ch.

Working on other side of ch, make hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 3 ch, tr in next 15 ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, join with sI st in 1st sc.

ROW 2--Ch 3, (dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st) 3 times, dc in next 5

sts, hdc in next 3 sts, sc in next st, (sc, ch 4, sc) in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next 3 sts, (dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st) 3 times, dc in next 6 sts. Fasten off.

Make 16. Sew 9 around edge of Base. Sew remaining 7 to Base just inside 1st row.

SMALL PETAL—With Blue ch 21, sc in 2d ch from hook, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 12 ch, hdc in next 3 ch, sc in next ch, 3 sc in end ch.

Working on other side of ch, make sc in next ch, hdc in next 3 ch, dc in next 12 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc in next ch, join with sI st in 1st sc.

ROW 2--Ch 1, (hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice, hdc in next 6

sts, sc in next 3 sts, (sc, ch 4, sc) in next st, sc in next 3 sts, (hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) twice, hdc in next 7 sts. Fasten off.

Make 9. Sew to Base just inside 2d row of petals.

CUP—With Yellow, repeat Base thru Row 3.

ROW 4— Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in next 8 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around (60 dc).

ROW 5--Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join. Repeat Row 5 four times (thru Row 9). Fasten off.

Edge—Join Blue to 1 dc, (ch 5, sI st in next dc, ch 1, sI st in next dc) repeated around. Join and fasten off.

Sew bottom of Cup to center of Base. Dip Nut Cup in medium thick, hot starch. Wipe off excess. As starch dries, arrange petals and cup in even shape. Beginning with inner row of Small Petals, and working out to outside row,bottom of petals can be tacked to bottom of cup to help hold them in position.

Nut Cups

MATERIALS--Lily Soft Spun Yarn:--1 ball each Pink, Blue, Green and Yellow (sufficient for 12 Cups), with crochet hook size 3; Lily Sil-Tone Mercerized Crochet Cotton:--1 ball each Med. Green, Beauty Rose, Blue, Orange and Lavender, with crochet hook size 10.

SAUCER--In Green Soft Spun. ch 2, 9 sc in starting st. * In back lps only, make 2 sc in each sc around. Mark end of rows.

ROW 3--(Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next) repeated around.

ROW 4--(Sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeated around. * Continue for 3 more rows, 1 more sc between widenings in each row. Put each widening in the 2d sc of each widening in previous row.

ROW 8--Sc in each sc around with one widening to make 64 sc.

ROW 9--Sc in each sc around.

EDGE--Sc in 3 sc, sl st in next 2 sc, (ch 1, dc in next sc, ch 1, sl st in next sc) repeated around. Fasten off.

CUP--Ch 2, 8 sc in starting st. Repeat Saucer from * to *.

ROWS 5 thru 12-(Make next row even, without widenings. Make next row with only one widening) 4 times.

ROW 13--Work even.

ROW 14--Repeat Edge.

HANDLE--Ch 2, 5 sc in starting st. In back lps, sc in each sc around and around for 2 1/4". Sl st in next 2 sc. Fasten off. Sew on cup for a handle. Tack Cup on Saucer.

LEAF SPRAY--In Green Sil-Tone, ** ch 11, * sk last st, (sl st, sc, 2

hdc and sl st) on ch, * (ch 6 and repeat from * to *) twice. Sk 3 leaves, sl st in ch-5 stem. Repeat from **. Fasten off. Make 5.

FLOWER In Beauty Rose Sil-Tone, (ch 4, dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same st) 5 times, sl st at base of 1st petal. Fasten off. Make 5. Sew a flower on center of stem between leaves. Tack one on each side of Cup and 3 on Saucer.

Make 2d Cup and Saucer of Blue with Orange flowers, a 3d Set of Yellow Soft Spun with Lavender flowers, and a Pink Set with Blue flowers.

Rub the handle, inside of Cup and bottom of Saucer with a pad of cloth dipped in hot, thick starch. As starch sets, arrange Cups and Saucers in true shape.

Round Compact Cover

Materials: dark's O.N.T. "Brilliant", 1 ball of any self-shading or solid color. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8.

Starting at center, ch 2.

1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

2nd rnd: 2 sc in each s c around.

3rd rnd: * Sc in next s c. 2 sc in next s c. Repeat from * around.

Continue to make s c in each s c) increasing 6 sc at equal distances apart on each rnd, having increases fall directly over those of previous rnd. until piece covers one side of compact. Work 1 rnd without increasing. Do not break off, but make picot edge as follows: *

Ch 4, sI st in 3rd st from hook, ch 1, skip 1 s c, sI st in next s c.

Repeat from * across 2 sides of hexagon. Fasten and break off.

Make another piece same as this, but do not break off. Place the 2

Crochet Gloves with Irish Cuffs

Materials: Clark's ONT or J & P Coats Mercerized Crochet 2 balls, White, size 70. Steel crochet hook No. 10.

LEFT HAND: Beginning at wrist, ch 162, and sl st in 1st ch to form ring.

1st rnd: * Ch 5, skip 5 ch, 1 s c in next ch, and repeat from * around.

2nd rnd: * Ch 5, 1 s c in next loop, and repeat from * around.

3rd rnd: Same as 2nd rnd but making ch-4 loops.

4th to 8th rnds incl: Same as 2nd rnd making ch-3 loops.

9th and 10th rnds: Make ch-4 loops.

11th to 17th rnds incl: Make ch-5 loops.

18th rnd: Ch 5, 1 s c in same loop as last s c. * Ch 5, 1 s c in next loop, and repeat from * 14 more times. ** Ch 3, 1 s c in saem loop as last s c, ch 3, 1 s c in next loop, ** and repeat from ** to ** twice more. Then ch 3, 1 s c in next loop and repeat from ** to ** 3 more times. Then continue around with ch-5 loops.

33rd rnd: Work to the extra loop in the last row, ch 30 (for thumb opening) skip 11 loops, then work on around as before.

34th rnd: Work to the last loop just before ch-30, ch 5, 1 s c in 3rd ch, * ch 5, skip ch-5, 1 s c in next ch and repeat from * for length of the extra ch.

38th to 46th rnd incl: Continue on around in ch-5 loops.

FINGERS. Put glove on so that the design will come in center of back of band and thumb opening in right position, and mark fingers by putting a safety pin on palm and back of hand between each finger.

FOREFINGER. Work ch-5 loops around making ch 6 to join the loops together that have been held together by a pin between forefinger and middle finger. Do not remove pin. Work in spiral for about 23

rnds, or until 1\2" less than desired length. It is better not to have fingers too long. * Then make 1 rnd of ch-4 loops, 2 rnds of ch-3

loops, 1 rnd of ch-2 loops, 1 rnd of ch-1 loops, then skip every other loop until edges are brought together. Break off *.

MIDDLE FINGER. Attach thread to loop at pin on palm side between ring finger and middle finger. Work loops across, making s c in loop where previous pin is, 2 loops over ch 6 between fingers, ch 5, s c in loop where same pin is on back of hand, work loops across, making ch 6 to join the loops together that have been held together by the pin between middle finger and ring finger. Work in spiral making loops until 1\2" less than desired length. Then repeat from * to * of forefinger.

RING and LITTLE FINGER. Same as forefinger and middle finger.

THUMB. Attach thread to a loop on palm side of hand and work as for fingers.

CUFF. 1st and 2nd rnds: Attach thread at wrist and work ch-6 loops for 2 rnds.

3rd rnd: Ch 3, 1 d c in same loop, ch 3, * 1 d c in next loop, ch 5, 1 d c in same loop, ch 3, and repeat from * around, ending with s c in ch-3 first made.

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (5 balls) or J. & P. Coats (3 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 50, color 9 Yellow. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8 or 9.

Left Hand. Beginning at wrist, ch 82 to measure 6 inches, turn.

1st row: D c in 7th ch from hook, ch 3, skip 2 ch, d c in next, ch 3, skip 2 ch, 5 d c in next, * ch 3, skip 2 ch, s c in next, ch 5, skip 2 ch, s c in next, ch 3, skip 2 ch, 5 d c in next, repeat from * until 8 groups of 5 d c are made. Ch 3, skip 2 ch, d c in next, ch 3, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch, ch 6, turn.

2nd row: Tr in next d c, ch 3, * tr in each of next 5 d c with ch-1

between trs, ch 4, s c under ch-5 loop, ch 4, repeat from * across.

After the last group of 5-tr, ch 3, skip next d c, tr in next sp, ch 2, tr in last sp, ch 6, turn.

11th rnd: Ch 4, and work in pattern as before to 18th rnd incl. End and begin each rnd in such manner that shell patterns come directly over shell patterns as previously done.

Shaping for Thumb: Try on glove with opening at center of palm of hand. Place a safety pin on palm and back of hand separating thumb from hand (thumb to be worked on later).

19th and subsequent rnds: Attach thread in sp at pin on palm side, ch 10, s c in sp at pin at back of hand, and work in pattern around.

Starting 2 5-d c shells over ch-10 (8 groups of shells in all). Work in pattern around and around the hand part of glove over 8 shells until when tried on it reaches to the base of fingers.

Fingers. Put glove on and mark fingers by putting a safety pin on palm and back of hand between each finger.

Forefinger: Attach thread to sp at pin on palm side between forefinger and middle finger. Work in pattern across to same pin on back of hand, ch 3, cross over to palm side, s c in sp at pin, and continue pattern in spiral until length desired. It is better not to have fingers too long. Draw tip together by making 2 rnds of s c. Break off.

Middle Finger: Attach thread to sp at pin on palm side between ring finger and middle finger, work pattern across finger and around, over the 3-ch and back of hand to same pin, ch 3, cross over to palm side, work in spiral and complete as for forefinger.

Ring and Little Fingers: Same as forefinger and middle finger.

Thumb: Attach thread to sp at palm side of hand and work as for forefinger.

Gauntlet. 1st rnd: Attach thread at opening point on foundation ch at wrist. Ch 3, skip 1 sp and d c, * 5 d c in next ch st, ch 3, skip next 5-d c shell, s c in next loop. Ch 5, skip s c, s c in next loop. Ch 3, skip next s c, repeat from * spacing work so that 11 5-d c groups are made, then ch 3, s c in 1st st of ch-3 first made.

2nd rnd: Ch 5, * tr in each of next 5-d c with ch-1 between each tr, ch 4, s c in ch-5 loop, ch 4, repeat from * around. After the last tr, ch 4, s c under ch-5 loop.

3rd rnd: Ch 5, * tr in each of next 5-tr with ch-2 between trs, repeat from * around omitting ch-2 between group, of trs (thus having the last tr of one group and first tr of next group come together). After last tr, ch 2, skip next loop, d c in next loop.

5th to 17th rnds incl: Repeat 2nd, 3rd and 4th rnds. Finish opening with 1 row of s c with 2 ch-loops on one side of opening for buttons.

Sew buttons on opposite side to correspond.

Right Hand. Make the same as for left hand, only being careful that the fingers are made to correspond with the right hand.

Sunlight Hat

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (5 balls) or J. & P. Coats (3 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 30, color 9 Yellow. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7. 2 yds. millinery wire and 2 yds. of ribbon.

Crown. Beginning at tip, ch 10, join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd: * Ch 10, s c in ring, repeat from * until 24 loops are made, then ch 6.

2nd rnd: S c in 1st loop, * ch 5, s c in next loop, repeat from *

around, ending, with s c under ch-6 of previous rnd.

3rd rnd: Ch 5, s c in each loop with ch-5 between s cs.

4th rnd: * Ch 3, 5 d c under next loop, ch 3, s c in next loop, ch 4, s c in same loop, repeat frorn * until 12 5-d c groups are made, then ch 3, s c in next loop, ch 5, s c in next loop, ch 2, s c in first d c of 5-d c group.

5th rnd: Ch 5 (to count as tr and ch-1), tr in each of next 4 d c with ch-1 between each tr, * ch 4, s c in next ch-4 loop, ch 4, tr in each d c of group with ch-1 between each tr, repeat froal around. After last group of trs is made, ch 4, s c in next ch-4 loop, ch 4, sl st in 4th ch of ch-5 first made.

6th rnd: Ch 6 (to count as tr and ch-2), tr in each tr with ch-2

between trs, but omitting ch-2 between groups (that is between last tr 47

of one group and 1st tr of next group). After last tr, join with sl st in 4th ch of ch-6 first made and sl st to 1st tr.
