first week. They’ve moved on to other videos, and even  their friends have joined in on the idea.

“One of our friends, Bryan, even got an award for his version of ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’,” Elli said. “Ted and I aren’t as funny as he is, but never mind—the two of us have fun making videos of our own, it’s one of our precious bonding times.”

As you can see, the key parts to maintaining a strong, healthy, long-term relationship not only include a strong and lasting physical attraction to one another—you need to nurture mutual respect and a clear, honest two-way communication as well.

And you already start practicing all these during the first few dates with your partner!   If, during the subsequent dates, you discover that the two of you struggle with mutual respect and communication, you know that there’s a chance a long-term relationship won’t work out between the two of you.

It’s never too early to realize the painstaking work it takes for a couple to commit to building and maintaining a lifetime relationship.   But all that work is precisely why such a relationship becomes a wellspring of so much spiritual power. Couples who work hard early on to build a lasting relationship become strong, and can conquer so many things in life together.

Eventually, if your dating relationship leads to marriage, the bond between you and your spouse will be unbreakable. Each of you can grow and mature in life, with peace of mind, having someone to come home to, someone to hold, someone to make love to,  and someone to share life’s most precious memories with.

Now do you see why dating is best done with purpose? Each date is a huge opportunity to build the foundation or the beginnings of a beautiful, lifelong relationship.   Treat it consciously as a huge opportunity, and prepare for it like you would prepare for a job. Get yourself ready to handle such a relationship from the very start, and focus your time and energy to all the preparation needed to handle everything involved. By doing things right the first time, you will save the most precious commodities of your life—your energy, your time and your youth.
