Ted  and Elli’s Story

 

Ted and Elli have a fun way of connecting with each other, with their friends and families—and with hundreds of fans.

They maintain a joint YouTube account, which they use to upload their own comedy videos.  Armed with only Mac laptops, they put up what they call “Literal Music Videos”.

The concept is simple.   They take old  music videos, take out the original music, and put in its place a backing track with their own voices, singing funny new lyrics.

“Elli and I were one day laughing at how some music videos, especially from the 80s and 90s, looked really bizarre if you took out the music,” Ted said. “Really weird action going on, that sometimes have very little to do with what’s being sung.”

“Then we thought: what we made new lyrics that literally matched the video?” Elli giggled. “And we’d sneak in some snarky comment in the lyrics about how bad the video is.”

They had so much fun with the first music video they tried modifying—the Beatles’ “Paperback Writer”. Elli wrote the lyrics, while Ted sang them in his best John Lennon-esque voice. When they uploaded it onto their YouTube account, it garnered thousands of views and a few hundred subscribers within the
