It was around this time that he met his first wife with whom he fathered a son named Joseph Neville Goddard. It was during a dancing tour in England that he had an encounter with a Scottish man who introduced him to study materials in the field of metaphysics. Grasping such an intellectual content on the power of the mind, his attention was integrally taken from entertainment and was diverted to discourses of mysticism and spirituality.
