All That Digging

We make it all beautiful

and glittery,

lipstick on a dead corpse

because some of us

have the stirring within

our bones but some of us

refuse to answer.

Why, I sometimes think,

but I was like them once, too,

a heart so grieved and chest

so heavy from all that digging

just so I could lie in my own

pile of dirt.
