As a poem “Execrating the School” offers little; as a demonstration of virtuosity in the use of the characters it may be worth printing. Texts of this poem have survived in many places. It is Kim Sakkat’s most collected poem.
First, the innocuous literal version:
I know the school since early days;
all within is to be prized.
The scholars number less than ten;
the teacher is nowhere to be found.
Then the crude scatological version:
It’s a prick of a school;
dog’s sperm all that’s in it;
the scholars are motherfuckers;
the teacher is a bollix.
The hanmun in the second line can be either a dog’s penis or dog’s sperm, hence “a dog’s dick all that’s in it” is an alternative translation.
