Night Camp

At night,

They sit at their camp

The two tents behind them

A blazing fire in front of them

They sit on a log each

Roasting marshmallows on sticks

Inside the fire with the wood beneath it

One person falls asleep

And comes to rest on the other’s lap

As the fire embers go into the air

The person still awake smiles

As the asleep person rests on them

A deer runs past

The person looks on in wonder

The deer runs into the darkness

Out of sight from the camp

As the person smiles with kind eyes,

At the thought of life around him/her,

And their asleep friend,

Resting on his/her lap,

While smiling in the comfort of sleep,

Under a starry night

The awake person looks up at the stars and moon

Behind the people

Both tents are open,

And both show light inside

Around them,

Dark trees blow in the wind,

In the dark night,

Far above their heads

The person looks up at the wonderful, starry night,

Which makes them relax,

The cool wind blowing on them,

And they close their eyes....

As the beautiful, elegant night surrounds him/her,

And their sleeping friend....

Then, the person....

Gives in to the natural environment, around them....

And goes to sleep,

Falling asleep

On the log he/she was sitting on

Him/her and their friend

Both sleeping soundly together with each other,

On the same log,

With the same comforted, content smiles,

On their sleeping faces

Happy they were sleeping together,

Together under this starry night....
