Voices on the Hills
I hear voices on the hills
Not too close, not too far away
Somehow, I can’t tell where they are
But they are loud enough for me to hear
I look back behind me
To see someone standing there
A person
About my height and width
“HELLO?”
I call to them
But there is no response
From them
“If you can hear me, please say something!”
But they can’t hear me
“Goodbye!”
I call, as I run off
Into the horizon
I realize
That I never
Want to see
That figure that looks like me
Again
And I disappear into the hills
That surround me
Neither him or I
Will ever want to see
Each other again
As the sun sets
Over the hills
