My former partners had great integrity one should not take for granted. Breakneck Bill and Stoneyard Steve could have easily screwed me around about the cabbage and kept it for themselves.
They had taken their deferred compensation as soon as it was available. It was only I who had some bourgeois notion about the future.
But, Chicago? Of all places. I didn’t really want to go to the place my parents had taken me two or three times as a child. We went to the Lincoln Park Zoo, but I found that the animals were the ones who weren’t caged.
Pop turned on the radio and walked over to the bulletin board. I heard Glenn Miller and in a low tone asked/said: “You see this?”
