While I was out on bail before the trial, I was fully expecting some minor slap on the wrist. After all this was a first offense and I was a folk hero. I went to Pop Tate’s and posted a message on his bulletin board inquiring about the Unholy Trio’s next get together. I was disappointed to see that in a few days I got my reply stating; “You’ve become too famous for us to risk being seen with you. Don’t take this personally. It’s not. Your cabbage is being held by David Cohen, who works for ‘McConnell’s Pawn Shop,’ at the intersection of Milwaukee and Devon Avenues in Chicago’s loop, where the avenues meet the Chicago River.
Good luck. Cohen is a ganef shy, but we used him to clear the stamps and paper, only because nobody else would with all the FBI operatives cheesing it loose, and Cohen doesn’t pack any rod because of the probation sentence for his copping to a felony aiding and abetting after the fact, pansy rap, and consequently is all bluff, not a hard number at all, though he spills to the G-men like a rat when cornered. Don’t let him give you the gate.
