He probably got a cut to send me to “Benny’s Eats,” less than half a block away. But, what’s one to do? The inside dope always costs ya.

Back, me and my meatball hero and beer settled into bed. I leaned back against the wall and pillow, ate, drank, and looked out the window on the un-named side street where my heap was parked. The windows on the street the two levels beneath me were bricked over, but up here on “the top of the world” three, I still had glass and a frame. I was glad as coming from a small, rural town I was interested in seeing what actually went on in the big city, without necessarily having to participate.

The activities of the Alky Gang seemed to dominate the street area nearest me. The scent of juju was in the air, and I wondered how many were contagious lungers.
