Veteran NYC Police Detective Tom Shaunessy is now more or less comfortable in his relocated New Mexico home. In his second major case in Vista de la Feria, a significant and popular local author is found dead. The Medical Examiner quickly rules it a suicide, of which the author had previously discussed and wrote about, officially ending the investigation. But, Shaunessy has as much respect for officialdom as he does slipshod “scientific expertise.” He upsets the apple cart, fully aware that it may be for no discernable purpose other than to do his job as he sees it.
