The IV Chapter
The Night I Was Finally Born
Part 1
Just a moment!
What day was it?
On a Tuesday in February, a few months after my parents settled in Italy on the Southern of Sorrento, I was born on a night that surprised everyone.
That’s correct!
I was born in Sorrento!
Well, it happened while the entire Country was celebrating Pancake Day—a day where everyone, including Christians, eats pancakes and enjoys music.
This annual event was familiar to everyone in the Country, but this time, it was me who caught my parents' and their friends' attention during the festivities.
It was indeed Pancake Day!
Pancake Day?
Without a doubt!
“Hun?”
“Are you feeling alright?”
“Why are you twisting?”
“Are you still in pain?” My father asked my mother as they were in their room, where slight discomfort was overtaking her. “Our baby, right?”
“Call a Doctor! I don't feel well!” She responded, lying down on the bed.
My father promptly called an emergency Doctor. A few minutes later, my mother successfully gave birth to me in the room at home.
“Congratulations, Mr. Legrand!”
“It’s a boy!”
“It appears your wife delivered the boy without any complications,” the attending Doctor informed my father as my mother completed the birthing process.
“At last, your first child is here!” One of my father's crews remarked, prompting laughter from the others.
“Oh! It's a boy!”
“A Black boy!”
“He resembles his mother,” the Doctor added. “Thank you, Doctor!”
“Thank you, everyone!” My mother said, turning to my father with a question,
“What shall we name the boy?” She asked.
Part 2
As my father and mother deliberated in the room about what name to give me in front of everyone, they eventually settled on one. “I got one!”
“Finally! I found a name for my boy!” My father announced it to everyone there.
“Great! That's wonderful to hear!” the Doctor responded. “What is it, Hun?”
“What is the name?” My mother asked my father. “I have chosen a name for my son, and I hope you like it!” My father declared.
“I am naming him Ley Wendavik!” He told my mother and everyone there.
“Oh! I adore that name!” My mother exclaimed. “Ley Wendavik sounds fantastic!” She added. “Everyone! Let’s welcome my son Ley Wendavik!”
“I waited so long for this moment, to be honest with you!” My father proclaimed as he lifted me, despite my cries. Indeed, the doctor and others there in the room applauded, and tears filled the eyes of some, not from sadness but from joy. “Well done, Captain Legrand!” One crew member expressed it to my father.
“Wow, Captain Legrand!”
“You really know how to impress!” Another crew member said. Quite amusing, right?
From there, my father, my mother, the doctor, and my father's crew all laughed at the reaction of the crew who said that. “Thank you!” My father said, “I am at a loss for words to convey my happiness.”
Naturally, I was just born, and crying was typical for a newborn. Then I remembered my father telling me, “Son! Welcome to the World!” He spoke.
“Yes, your father, your mother, and you are now family,” he said again. “Son! Welcome to the challenging reality of life!” My mother also told me as she held me a few minutes later.
As time went on, everyone needed to resume their celebrations, and my father had to arrange for the Doctor, along with some of his team and their spouses, to leave the room so they could go back to their pursuits. “Thank you all for being with us during this difficult time!”
“Indeed! We really made it possible, alright.” My father expressed it to everyone.
“Now, let’s return to the celebration.”
“Thank you.”
“Happy Pancake Day, everyone!” He announced. “Thank you!” They replied and continued their night. So, my father’s crew and wives, along with the Doctor, exited the room. Shortly, the Doctor departed, and my father’s crew and wives gathered outside their home to continue the holiday festivities.
