Threshold Into The Kingdom
In the Great Hall. Pastor Connor sitting at the meeting. “I have called all you to this meeting. I have a letter from a King Winfred of his kingdom Wyvern. He has offered an alliance between Chivalry Chapel and his kingdom to begin a new kingdom as partnership. He wants to see us prompt for meeting tonight. Are we gain for this?
Bren, intrigued. “You know I am always with you on these outings. Yes, why not.”
Detective Liam Niles, poised in his chair. “I’m gaine if you are Sir.”
Lady Tuana, smiled. “I’m gain.
Trey interjected, “Can I come?”
Liam smiled his dimples wide at him.
At the king’s place… meeting.
The gathering residence of the Chivalry Chapel stood in attendance awaiting for the meeting to begin. Their plates of food and chalices of wine already served to each guest.
Pastor Connor, “He’s prompt to be late for his own dinner, to leave us all standing.”
Bren, taking his hand, gestures her puckered lips to quiet him.
The king entering into the room majestically treads to his chair.
The Esquireman servant standing next to his king. “His Majesty. King Winfred presides. All stand in honor.”
The King, sitting around the table seeing all his guests. “Greetings. I am King Winfred. Go on, sit.”
The residence of Chivalry Chapel sat in commencement.
King Winfred began his speech. “I have summoned all you here into this meeting for one goal. To form an alliance to build a new kingdom. The goal is simple. To bring together all the surrounding villages into forming a new kingdom. “
Pastor Connor with respect. “King Winfred. And for what reason?”
The King gave answer. “To rectify a growing problem within the communities as life for the commoners are getting harder to maintain.
Pastor Connor acknowledged. ”I know as being Pastor, I have heard of the news of treacherous hard living as though like that of serfs.”
The King concurred. “Yes. And that is why I have made my offer to bring our two powers of nobility together. The solution to this problem.”
Liam moving forward in his chair. His hands lay on the table clutched together. “King Winfred. And how would this be done? Surely without infringing force upon the commoners’ rights.”
The King addressed him. “I don’t think they will have any other choice. They are in dire straits as is.”
Pastor Connor included. “ I’m afraid he is right. There is no other way out of this situation for them but to accept the invitation to merge in order to survive. But first. In order to do this is to understand on how to get there. We need to know what we are dealing with each other.”
The King concurred. “Right. I think it would be fitting to start with that. Pastor Connor. We’ll start with you. Your Chivalry Chapel. The first owner was Sir Knight John Drake.”
Pastor Connor Drake, concurred. “Yes. That’s right. I am his descendant, as my daughter and grandson after me. I am the half owner but with the authority for oversight. ”
The King looked at his wife. “Bren Drake. With no noble title other than Wife of Connor, Mother of daughter Lady Tauna.”
Bren smiled. “Yes. That is right. But I do have my resources of knowledge and consent.”
The king placing his fixed eyes upon her daughter. “Lady Tauna Drake Niles. “I can see where you get your beauty from.” He stared at her.
Tauna cordially smiled at him. ‘Thank you King Winfred. That’s very kind of you.”
The King smiled back at her. “And Lady Tauna of Chivalry Chapel. What authority of power do you have to help remedy this monstrosity?”
Liam observing closely.
Tauna divulged. “I have the authority to order what I see fit to benefit for the well being of my jurisdiction.
The King narrowed in, “And what does that consist of?”
Tauna continued. “Well, I have the authority to order all sorts of things. For example, order all to give aid to the suffering in any condition, and in any event of threat to the chapel, to bar the gate, even to request for the draw bridge to be drawn for the protection of my people, having my knights stand guard.”
The King, with grin. “Fantastic. I’m sure that kind of power would be used to enforce and ensure a secure borderline of fortitude by which we could share in.” He smiled with charm at her.
Liam, observant of the king’s choice of questions.
The King, redirected his view. “Detective Trey Niles. Younger Brother of Liam Niles.”
Trey, attentive. “Yes sir. But I am only just that. No other title.”
The King, satisfied. Turned his attention to Liam “And Detective Liam Niles. Your profile is impressive. Pastor Connor specifically chose you to investigate the whereabouts to the missing signet ring of Sir Knight Drake. And then later became Knighted as Sir Knight Liam Niles.”
Liam, divulged to him. “Yes, that’s right.”
The King, continued. “Are you also the Grand Master of Chivalry Chapel?”
Liam, equally focused unto him. “Yes. You could say that.”
King Winfred moved forward in his hair. “And even the proprietor and protector of The Chivalry Chapel and Lady Tauna?”
Liam peered at his brother Trey for a moment.
Trey, curiously peered at Liam.
Liam, placing his focus back unto the king. “Indeed. I am.”
The King, raising one brow.” Splendid. I admire such a great man of gallantry.”
A moment of dead stare of silence between them.
The King sat righteous. “Right. My chalice is low of wine. Maiden Servants. Pour another round of wine for our guests. And, in commemoration to Liam, the FINEST wine. And another as our chalices’ lower in depletion.”
One maid tilting her head in reverenced request, the maids quickly taking the wine from the bucket of ice, distributing to each member. The king, once again, raised his chalice but in silence, kept his view on Liam.
Liam, taking another swig of his second chilled chaliced wine, likewise, kept his view on the king.
Pastor Connor, curious. “King Winfred. How will this offer take place? How could we convince the commoners of our good intentions.”
The King continued to divulge. “Incentives given to the people will likely lure them into this decision as a bestowment of our best intentions for them. A great bargain they could not refuse but to take.”
Bren, interjected. “And if they do not, for some do have their pride. Unfortunately their suffering will only get worse…..”
Liam interjected. “The point given. Some will join, some will not, and in a short period of time as the lessor with their food on table dwindles, will have no other choice but to surrender what they would consider their livelihoods given over to the king and alliance. Is that right, King Winfred?”
The King grinned. “Detective Liam Niles. You have such keen deducement. That even the use of tactics would not be needed. That even you could convince the people to surrender into our hands without a fight of sword.”
Liam, giving him a questionable look. “Tactics.”
The King explained. “The legendary man in his own time that you yourself have become known to your own people. They would just simply comply to you.” Withdrawing his hands from the table. “ In conclusion. I for one think to go forward with the signing of the agreement to commence this new kingdom. Is there any objections?”
Pastor Connor, finishing his drink. “King Winfred. There is much to consider in your offer. That we will need at least have a night to think over.”
The King in curtesy. “Of course. As all agreements are.” Getting up from his chair.
The head Esquireman still standing next to his king. “All rise.”
All guests stood from their chair in reverenced respect.
The king, seeing Liam heavily focus upon him, giving Liam one last look, moves forward towards the door about to walk past him.
Liam stood at ease, kept his respects, his focus, straight. “King Winfred.”
King Winfred, stopped in place next to him. turning to Liam.
Liam continued. “As Detective. I also would like to have questions for you as well. If you don’t object. But because of the alliance sake, I’m sure you will be more than willing to answer questions for this new kingdom.” He turned to him.
The King. With a staggering grin. “ I admire your bold confront. The qualities of a great future authority worthy of my challenge.”
Liam poised in gallantly. “King Winfred. “The only thing I challenge is my own validation to the answers that I seek for a solid foundation. And not one built upon sand next to cliff.”
King Winfred with a moment’s pause. “ You have my solid word of honor. This new kingdom of alliance will not falter. But. If you are requesting for another meeting. You shall have it. Another meeting will be met.”
Liam, in like manner. “Thank you, King Winfred.”
The King, turned to everyone. “Pastor Connor. Shall we meet again by this time by next evening?”
Pastor Connor, with verified looks of Bren, Tauna and Liam. “Yes your majesty. By then we should have more information.”
King Winfred satisfied. “Right. This meeting has concluded.” He began his walk passed Liam, then once again stalled in the presence of Inspector Crouse, just two inches above him, giving him a straight look of question. “And you. What is your presence of this gathering?” Inspector Crouse stood in acquaintance but bold. “I’m only here in duty to the questions and answers, King Winfred.”
The king satisfied, walked out of the room.
Inspector Crouse, in jester. “Criky. This King sure has an unquenched thirst for his wine doesn’t he?”
Trey, with smirk.“ I’m not sure if it was the King talking through his wine or his wine talking through him.”
Pastor Connor, sighed. “One short above gluttony. Couldn’t imagine him being high priest and not being able to find his alter.”
Bren, “Or to distinguish between the difference of sacramental wine or Alcohol .
Tauna next to Liam. Turned to him. “He is a very charming man.”
Liam, taking her hand, kissing upon it. “How is that for charming, me Lady?”
Tuana teasing back. “Is that all you can offer to me?”
Liam, pulled her close. “What else besides our offer to each of begetting our son. He gave her his husbandry lust in his eyes.”
Tauna gazed deeper into eyes with wry grin.
Liam sighed looking at everyone. “And he seems to be one for all but one in charge of all. In any case. We shall return by tomorrow evening.
