In the lint laced corridors of Sock Society, change had finally come. The Council of Elasticity, long criticized for its harsh treatment of adolescent sock offenders; those who skipped mandatory folding rituals, refused to pair, or graffiti tagged laundry chutes, had passed the Reform Weave Act. No longer would teen socks be unraveled for minor infractions. Instead, they’d be offered restorative stitching and mentorship from elder socks with reinforced heels.

At first, the news was met with jubilation. Young socks danced freely in the dryer drums, their patterns vibrant and mismatched. The Old Guard Argyles, Wool Veterans, and ceremonial Knee Highs; grumbled from their drawer perches, predicting chaos. “Without consequence,” warned General Toebert, a retired combat sock; “they’ll unravel society stitch by stitch.”
