Dylan only looked at him, too frightened to speak or form a coherent thought.
He was covered in urine and vomit and had most likely shit himself in the ensuing chase, and that attic smell was coming on strong again, the window Dylan sat beside had bars but the glass was down. Cord sat watching and waiting still for a response to his question.
“No? I had a bet with one of the others your friend with the make up would’ve noticed it, looks like beers are on me tonight. We were listening in too, got the ears for it you might say and I was hoping he would have noticed that. That guy was smart, he was right about the full moon thing too. The old world legends get a lot of things wrong about my kind.” Cord said stepping out of his car.
He closed it and meandered his way over to the back passenger door with the open window. His eyes had been normal through out the conversation, when he leaned down on his elbows to look at Dylan they glowed red like the hairy monsters chasing after them. The deputy smiled and his teeth looked bigger and his lips wider.
“Yeah my town has a bad bloody kind of history but so do a lot of places in this country. Like did you know there is a park in downtown Philadelphia that was built over a mass grave of colonial soldiers?”
Dylan did know that, but he was filled with terror and could only stutter at the deputy. His body was shaking like he was in standing naked in a blizzard, the sight made Cord chuckle.
“Now don’t you start that crying again, there aren’t many of us and we don’t live forever and gotta eat same as you. If it makes you feel any better, I’ll put out a state wide APB for you and your friends after I find your vehicle in a ditch with blood on the inside. After a few weeks maybe they’ll find a piece of you somewhere closer to the city or maybe in a cave further up north.
“There’ll be a few answers, nothing conclusive of course. People will still want to know and to look for you, some police maybe, regular internet sleuths for sure and that’s fine too I won’t stop them from looking. I never do because in the end they never figure it out, ever and you and your friends will become a mystery people talk about on Reddit and in between YouTube comments about things no one really cares about. You know what would be awesome?” Cord said sounding a little embarrassed for a second by his question.
“If they covered your story on this Podcast called Unexplained Murders on Spotify, I listen to it all the time I can’t get enough of it I love podcasts. I tried listening to this one paranormal podcast about haunted houses but stuff like ghosts and poltergeists really scare me. I’m not kidding I get creeped out by that kind of stuff, and I’m a god damn werewolf.” he said with a chuckle before continuing.
